Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond, and Ben Riley make up among the finest trios in contemporary jazz. This studio album is seemless, showcasing Barron's compositional chops as well as a number of somewhat offbeat choices from Monk, Rufus Reid, Blue Mitchell, etc. The three musicians function as a unit, as any great trio should, so that even when Barron is the supposed soloist, you find yourself drawn into Drummonds melodious basslines and Riley's subtle textures.
