Brazilian songsmith Lenine has been influenced and inspired by everything from pop and rock to Massive Attack and Gilberto Gil. His U.S. debut disc, then, is a virtual melting pot of those diverse sounds. Shake, stir and sway to the sounds of this intriguing artist. Lenine's songs have been recorded by the likes of Sergio Mendes and Dionne Warwick, but he is at the forefront of this disc, which actually culls material from three Brazilian releases. Featured players include Latin-funk heroes Yerba Buena, who join in on the simmering "Rosebud (O Verbo E A Verba);" and '80s oddity Living Colour, who groove during "O Homem Dos Olhos De Raio X." Electronic touches accent the disc, but the sound of live instrumentation anchors most of the material. About the Artist

Singer, composer, arranger, musician and producer - few artists are acknowledged talents in so many differnt areas. The Recife-born Lenine has become one of the stars of Brazilian popular music, acclaimed by the public, the press, his fellow artists and tastemakers alike. He is considered one of the standard bearers of the Brazilian scene for the 21st century, combining original music with the rhythm of Northeast Brazil over a base of rock, pop and electronica. Lenine has composed for such Brazilian stars as Gilberto Gil, Daude and Sergio Mendes. In 2005 he was the top winner of Brazil's TIM Awards, sweeping the categories of Best CD, Best Male Vocalist, Best Male Vocalist (Popular Vote) and Best Song. he has also received two Latin Grammy Awards in 2005 for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album and Best Brazilian Song.

Lively instrumentation and a 3 feet deep groove run throughout the album. Lenine's vocal and dynamic range keep the momentum going, and the added instrumentation/electronica augments rather than obscures the simple underlying structure of singer and nylon-stringed guitar. At heart, this is skillful songrwiting and arranging, but never feels canned. I look forward to hearing more!

This U.S. debut from Lenine (one of Brazil's best-kept secrets) earned him two Latin Grammys and a lot of well-deserved attention. Funk, R&B, hip-hop, rock and traditional music co-exist with great effect. The album resonates with the rich, authentic sounds of piano and acoustic strings, along with electronic voicings and roots instruments such as the berimbau and maracatu drums. And, at the core, Lenine's soulful, seductive voice commands full attention. Guests include Latin funk outfit Yerba Buena and Living Colour.

There is something about Lenine's music that makes you feel as though it is actually taking you to a place you've never been before. A magical place only he knows about. His music is the key to this world.

He uses the poetry, the rhythms, the pulse of the various beats and his undeniable unique way to play the guitar to talk about the human condition and the unending search for the beatiful.

Sometimes music can actually be an artform. Something with a purpose crafted by an genuine artist. It is certainly the case here.
