I chose to play this opening as black because I did not want to study deep theoretical openings - Kings Indian, Modern, Pirc, Queens Indian, etc. After a considerable amount of researching opening books, I found this one. This book is really awesome and I give much credit to the author, Stefan Kindermann, for his extensive research and efforts to cover the aggressive Dutch Leningrad. There are many things that I like about this book. First, he covers themes and ideas for both black and white. Second, there are illustrative games included with annotations by Kindermann. Main lines are covered of course and it includes Anti-Dutch lines such Bg5, g4, and Staunton Gambit. Kinderman recommends lines that give black better play. I agree with the other reviewer...this opening is not for the fainthearted. The Leningrad is really aggressive. Black will get a lot of counter-play and piece activity. If you are looking for an aggressive system, choose the Leningrad system. Highly recommend this book. Uses figurine algebaric notation. Don't pass it up, you will not regret it.

I like this book because of the author's confidence in recommending lines that work. I found the Bg5 and Staunton ideas to be very helpful.

It started well with a section on thematic positions and the associated tactics likely to occur. You could then spot these in the games to follow. The author also suggests lines for white though I like the Karlsbad Nh3 and Leningrad Stonewall ideas for white too.

The publishers have done an excellent job in layout, diagrams, typefaces etc. ('Quality in Chess' eg Experts vs the Sicilian, please take note of how it should be done!)

This is my favorite opening book. I'm new to the Leningrad. This book is by far the best opening book I've read in terms of its layout and organization, mix of history, theory and complete games. Very user friendly.
