4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent device - but it has it's limitations
This device has 2 amps of power output, total. That means it can charge your iPad at the same rate as the native ipad charger, or it can charge your iPad and iPhone simultaneously, with your iPhone charging at full speed and your ipad charging very slowly. But you've only got 2A to work with, so if you plug in 4 devices, each had better have less than a 500mA requirement...

1.0 out of 5 stars loosey goosey connectors make USB adapter useless
This adapter has potential for having a single wall plug adapter to power up to 4 USB devices for charging & operation. However, the USB connectors are so loosey goosey that inserted cord connectors rarely make good reliable contact. i.e., your cell phone battery is still dead after being plugged in overnight. One email to Lenmar has netted nothing other than the...

This device has 2 amps of power output, total. That means it can charge your iPad at the same rate as the native ipad charger, or it can charge your iPad and iPhone simultaneously, with your iPhone charging at full speed and your ipad charging very slowly. But you've only got 2A to work with, so if you plug in 4 devices, each had better have less than a 500mA requirement.

That being said, it's a great device as it'll put the full 2A to a single port for quick iPad charges. Another great feature of this device, which isn't mentioned, is that the included interchangeable international power connectors plug into the device using the industry-standard two-prong connection usually used on notebook cords, which means you can use a two-prong notebook cord directly into the device for longer reach. A very clever design choice by lenmar, to be sure.

All in all, love this device. It seems to be very sturdily constructed works perfectly for even very high (by usb standards) amperage devices, like the ipad, albeit with the caveat you need to keep in mind that 2A charging limit. It's one of very few devices that will actually put 2A out through a single USB port. Definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for travel, March 13, 2009

Fortunately, mobile devices are finally converging on the USB 5v power standard. Now, if only the world could agree on an electrical outlet standard. This well-made unit addresses both sides of the power adapter challenge. Don't think you'll ever need four USB power ports? At first that's what I thought, too. Now I am already traveling with THREE.

The Lenmar adapter was a godsend on a recent trip overseas. It worked like a charm.

One word of warning: When traveling, one often needs to charge everything overnight. Make sure you bring enough USB cables so all your gadgets can charge at once. The four USB ports are useless without cables.

We recently grew to be a 4 iphone/ipod family. On our last trip, we carried 4 separate chargers to keep the devices juiced up. Spending more time than I cared to, searching for wayward wall chargers plugged into distant hotel room outlets and such, I decided to look for a multi-use charger. My first solution failed, having purchased the Griffin PowerDock 4. I have a separate review there. Then, I settled on this Lenmar charger. It outperforms the Griffin charger at half the price and size. In short, it provides 4 USB charging ports that do what they are supposed to do. They charge. The unit is small enough to travel with. Just be sure to bring the USB cables needed to charge your devices. Another bonus...it comes with international power plug adapters. Note: Kensington appears to be reselling this same device, but with the adapters. Better to buy this one directly from the manufacturer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical & Useful Device For Travel, June 17, 2009

I've been using this product for a few months now and find it very useful when traveling out of town. It enables me to charge multiple devices (my iPhone, my fiancee's BlackBerry, her iPod Touch, our Amazon Kindle) with just one charger.

The international adapters included are an added bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use a USB *charge-only* cable and you'll have no problems, December 21, 2009

I bought this charger several months ago and it didn't work with my Nokia N85, so I assumed that it doesn't put out enough current (claimed 1 Amp). After doing some internet research, I found that there is a difference between a USB sync/charge cable, and a "charge only" cable. With the charge only cable, pins 2 and 3 (the data pins) are shorted. This is how the phone or other device you're charging can tell if it's connected to a computer or a charger. Some chargers (including this one) claim that either a data cable or a charging cable will work fine, but I found that charging my phone using a normal data sync cable did not work, but using a charge only cable works great. Charge-only cables are not as easy to find, but AT&T sells one, and so does Radio Shack, although it's way over priced for a cable that basically just has two pins shorted on it. I hope this helps some people!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Power To Charge Kindle, January 24, 2010

I bought this since I travel frequently. I have a blackberry, ipod and kindle. The adapter doesn't have enough power to charge the kindle, the yellow charge light blinks (which indicates so).

Great design, but poor performance. I would not recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked really well in Europe and USA, June 6, 2009
This review is from: Lenmar ACUSB4 AC Travel Adapter for up to 4 USB Powered Devices (Black) (Personal Computers)
I have used this to charge more than one USB compatibile device at a time (I pod touch and older I pod video), both with the USA and the European prongs and it worked great. I would was very satisfied with this product and would recommend this to anyone who needs to charge through a USB cable on the go.

I purchased this here based on the positive reviews. Mine died after 40 hours. I just received the refund (minus the deductions?) from Amazon. I think this device is not meant to be plugged in 24x7. Disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not enough amps for modern phones, December 10, 2009

This review is from: Lenmar ACUSB4 AC Travel Adapter for up to 4 USB Powered Devices (Black) (Personal Computers)
This charger can only provide enough amps to charge my Droid phone. If I plug more than that in, one of the devices does not charge. Needs to provide up to 4 amps if they're selling it as able to charge 4 devices. I might as well have bought a $5 single device wall charger.
