Finally!
I got very tired of waiting...and waiting...and waiting for the Amazon battery to become available. I saw this option and gave them a try. Standard shipping had the new battery to me in 5 days (weekend in between). I am very pleased to report I am now back to charging my half dead battery once a week instead of once a day. It takes about a week for this battery to reach half capacity and this is with me never turning it off. I only turn on the net when I check Kindle daily posts or if I know I have a subscription on the way. So my net use is very limited.
But what a relief to get a good working battery on demand as we have all become so accustomed to instant gratification. I may just order another to keep around for the future.

I've had my Kindle 1 for about 18 months - for the first year the battery lasted for 2 weeks at a time - the last 3 months 15 minutes of whispernet would drop my battery by half and I had to charge every couple days - I'd had much better luck than most with the battery but it was time for a new one. As the Amazon battery was out of stock I purchased this instead. I wish I'd waited. This battery is worse than my 18 month old Amazon one. With no whispernet the battery needs to be recharged in less than 8 hours reading and whispernet drains the battery in minutes. I'm going to try an Amazon replacement instead.

Battery works so far. It's in stock, which is more than I can say for Amazon's version.

When I needed to replace my battery for the first model Kindle, I turned to this brand, as the battery that came in the Kindle gave up the ghost prematurely. For the same price, I purchased this battery and find it a commendable substitute.

Like the others below, I originally ordered the Amazon Kindle battery and waited 4 weeks before realizing that it was likely never coming off 'backorder'. I ordered the Lenmar, received it two days later and was back to reading that night. I wish I had read the reviews first, I would have never even bothered ordering the Amazon product.

I purchased this battery a few weeks ago. I put it in my Kindle and charged it overnight. I read for about fifteen minutes with it, then put it back on the charger for about three days. I took it on a trip with me that weekend, turned it on with a full battery and within fifteen minutes the low battery indicator was flashing and it powered down. I have been charging it ever since and it will not even power up now. It was a waste of money. I'll be buying the Amazon brand Kindle battery in the future.

As usual, Amazon came through with an easy purchase at the right price, and with a quick delivery. I love all of my Kindles, and I own five of them! The new ones went to my family so they can use my growing eBook library. I do some of my reading on my iPad these days, or my Mac Book Air. But nothing beats a real Kindle for reading in the sunlight! I was really disappointed (after two years) when my original Kindle stopped working. Even with the charger on, it would not start up so I was about to toss it. Based on the experience of others, I became suspicious that the battery might be the problem. Sure enough, a quick and easy swap of the battery was all that it took to put my first generation Kindle back into full service.

We have the original Kindle and the original battery started to fail. This replacement battery is easy to install, holds a charge as good as the original. Would make a great spare as well for those long road/plane trips.

I have had this battery for only a short time. First, I replaced the Amazon batteries(2) that both died quickly, around 2 months before they would not hold a charge. I got this Lenmar battery based on reviews on Amazon. The Lenmar battery does charge quickly and is easy to put into my Kindle. However, I've discovered that you can't leave the Whispernet running on it. I did and it completely ran the battery down over night. Also, you can't leave the Kindle in the sleep mode over night, because it will also run the battery down. I will edit this review to see if the Lenmar battery will last longer than my last 2 Amazon batteries.

I bought the battery in August and it's already dead. I just reordered two of the original batteries from Amazon and by passed the Lenmar. Not happy with this product. I have a Kindle 1.........
