Charger fried my SONY batteries!, June 13, 2005
This review is from: Lenmar PDAAX1032 Battery for Audiovox Mastro 1032, Toshiba E570 (Office Product)
I purchased the Mach1 Fusion USB charger recently. It seemed like a fabulous product - one charger, that could eliminate at least 4 separate units, plus works in the car with no extra adapters.
However, it appears to have rendered two expensive SONY camcorder Infolithium batteries unusable, and cost me some irreplaceable footage of my children. I had to run out at the last minute before an important family event and purchase batteries at the local camera shop for a premium to replace the ruined ones. LENMAR is going to evaluate my batteries and let me know what they are willing to do about this, if anything. They are not being reassuring about "doing the right thing".
I will post again when/if this gets resolved, but if you have a need to charge InfoLithium batteries, I'd steer clear of this charger.
I have some other complaints as well (horrendously toxic smell out of the package that cleared after a few weeks), but these pale in comparison to ruining my expensive batteries.
Addendum 8/27/05
After considerable back and forth with customer service over several weeks, Lenmar did ultimately go out of their way to express ship me a replacement charger while I was on vacation, along with a replacement SONY battery. And in the end, they reimbursed me for the batteries I had to buy to salvage a family event. So, I give them 5 stars for customer service and honesty. In the end, the one thing that I still feel a bit uncomfortable about is using this charger with SONY info lithium batteries. LENMAR says they are compatible, but it seems that at least some models -possibly older ones - may need to have a chip reset after charging in the Mach 1 unit. If charging SONY infolithium batteries is an important need for you, I would inquire carefully with Lenmar about exactly what will work. Otherwise, it seems to work very well on other battery types I've used.
The AA/AAA adapter is also a bit unstable and you have to be very careful to get the batteries in the right position.
Overall, I'd give it 4.5 stars if SONY batteries are not a need.
