Last Performace & Original Mixes,
This review is from: Lennon Box Set (Audio CD)
I'm a Lennon fan on a budget so I was thankful to find this set at an affordable price seeing I already have most of these songs. First this set contains (to my knowledge) the only CD release of Elton John and John Lennon's 3 performaces at Madison Square Garden. These also happen to be Lennon's final on stage appearance where he blasts out Paul's 'Saw Her Standing There'!
Secondly this 1990 set has the original pre-remastered mixes, not a big deal but I did notice that the remastered Lennon albums do have slight off the chart peaks when looking at their wavforms...in reagards to the Loudness War. This a great set, better than Working Class Hero and Legend in my opinion.

A Must Have In Your John Lennon Collection,
By Binary Vixen "Debby -- TBV" (1313 Mockingbird Lane) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lennon Box Set (Audio CD)
This is a very comprehensive collection of John Lennon's solo career...With even a few live performances thrown in for good measure...One is the coveted Beatles "Come Together" and "Whatever Gets You Though The Night"...For good measure for a John Lennon tribute Elton John sing "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", which Elton does in his own way, and hits the song spot on...This compilation will not leave the listener wanting for more, because sadly there is no more since his tragic death...The Beatles will live forever in music history and John Lennon will always be a part of music history...

Imagine... The Perfect Collection!,

This was a VERY limited edition release in 1990, and I snagged my copy right when it came out. Good thing I did, because it disappeared in a hurry and as far as I can tell it's never been reissued. Get this one, and at this time there are some pretty reasonable used prices here, and it's the only John Lennon collection you will ever need.
Here's all you need to know: 63 tracks on four CDs. All the hits, plus lots of great album tracks and some non-album songs too. Plus, you get some live treats from the 1969 Toronto Peace Festival AND John's final live performance, with Elton John at Madison Square Garden. For that last reason alone, this is worth having. It's a beautifully packaged set that comes with a nice booklet featuring the lyrics to the songs, and lots of great pictures. The sound is pretty good too. I remember thinking this collection sounded a lot better than other Lennon collections I had prior to this (such as the Imagine movie soundtrack). There's other nice rarities collections of John's music that are certainly worth having, but this is the definitive, essential collection to have. Hard to believe I bought this almost 20 years ago, and equally hard to believe John's been gone for almost 30. At least I'll always have this set to remember him by.

I'm so glad I bought this when it was available.,
This review is from: Lennon Box Set (Audio CD)
Not only do you get a great overall listening 'view' of John Lennon's post Beatle work, but you get the masters the way they sounded on vinyl. Nothing is punched up or watered down.
Admittedly, I bought this for only 3 songs, the live versions of Whatever Gets You Through The Night, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, and I Saw Her Standing There. They run together as one continuous live set of music, which I don't think is available anywhere else. The other allure to his set was Disc 4, which contains all of John's songs from Double Fantasy and Milk & Honey sans Yoko. It has the feel of a good, final John Lennon solo album. If you happen to see this at a Used CD store, garage sale, etc. Buy It!! It's worth owning, but not above $30.

Great Collection w/Great Sound,

I can attest to the superior sound quality of this to later releases though I haven't heard the 2010 remasters. I picked this up for around $30 on ebay which seems to be the going rate and at that price you can't go wrong as a John Lennon fan. I really only knew the greatest hits songs and have already found some new to me songs that I really like. The sound quality on watching the wheels and nobody loves you when you're down and out stand out so far as better than any Lennon releases I've heard before, speaking only of cds. I feel like I'm hearing J Lennon for the first time which is nuts.

The One To Have - Better Than 2010 Remasters,

This review is from: Lennon Box Set (Audio CD)
With the word on the street spreading that the 2010 remasters are overpriced and poorly done, this is the comprehensive set to own. Unfortunately it is long out of print. Should be another 10 or 20 years before they repair the mistake of the 2010 mix. Sigh.
