There may have been other "retro" rock acts before him, but Lenny Kravitz was one of the first to not be pigeonholed to a single style as he touched upon such genres as soul, funk, reggae, hard rock, psychedelic, folk, and ballads over the years. The US-born rock singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz takes a broad range of influences from funk, psychedelia and folk into his music. "Are You Gonna Go My Way?" and "Let Love Rule" are among his best known hits.

After a move to LA, the young Kravitz joined the California Boys Choir, spending three years with them before discovering Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix and losing interest in classical music.
