Lenore - the cutest little dead girl ever,
By "julsp" (Bethlehem, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lenore, Vol. 2: Wedgies (Issues 5-8) (v. 2) (Paperback)
This is a collection of Roman Dirge's Lenore comic 5-8. If you enjoyed volume1: noogies, then you are sure to enjoy this. To those who haven't read the first volume, I recommend it if you enjoy dark humor. This is one of the funniest comics i've ever read.

Delciously cute and macabre in the same small package,
By Robert Kaylor (Spring Valley, California United States) - See all my reviews

I feel as if there has been a good amount of morbid, demented, and just plain odd comics to tied me over with for a while. Lenore is one of the better ones, the series is about a cute little dead girl, and her viewpoints on things...a bit different but still in the same style as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. If you like things such as this you might try reading either the Sandman series, or perhaps the goth inspired Gloom Cookie, both are incredibly great in their own rights :)

Who ever thought that someone could write so much about a cute little dead girl? I hope Dirge writes more! Anyway, for those of you who know Johnny The Homicidal Maniac, it's sort of in that style. The major difference is the easy to understand part; Johnny likes to go on really deep rants that are hard to follow, but Lenore is simply cute with a morbid sense of humor. She is such a role model, except for the cat killing. That's bad.

More of the great Roman Dirge humor and art in this book. This is the second of the 3 released (Noogies is #1-4 and Cooties is #9-12). This book collects the comics #5-8. They are printed on high quality paper and in full color. The are dark humor about the adventures of the cute little dead girl and her friends. For a bit more info refer to my review of Noogies, as it being the first book, I wrote the longer review for it. Great stuff.

a bit more grusome but has nice pictures. More like a bunch of short stories (usually a page or a few pages long) of either lenore or poems or even of classic stories with lenore (and her twists) added. I bought all three of season one and both of season two and love them!

Just how do you describe the twisted world of Lenore? Macabre. Twisted. Grotesque. Perverted. Violent. Tasteless. The list can go on. However, I love this book by Roman Dirge. My usual reading includes Peanuts, the Phantom, Kolchak, and a host of sci fi. Every now and then you have to veer off the beaten path, and look into the dark. That would be either Nemi, or Lenore. Wedgies, is a collection of issues 5-8 that have not been seen on thiese shores. Titan Books, in their re-issue have re-defined many people's taste, usually for the worst. Well, a prime example of the appeal/disgust that this series elicits is "There Was An Old Woman". Clearly, not the poem we all know. "Fugly Duckling" is another twisted tale with an unexpected ending, kick the critter! One thing is guaranteed about this book is that it will take you to depths you never thought you would explore, and that you just might laugh until you die. At that point, Lenore would be your friend and not try to kill you. Good luck with that. In the world of twisted fiction, Lenore stands alone. Can't imagine why though? Tim Lasiuta

LOVE the seris. very funny cultrally sublime great for jokes and coversation starters. Not easy to describ to the average country bumpkin or religous nut, rapper or sport type. Definatly not something to talk about around protective parents however I think you can get around it if they like Shawn of the Dead. Only seris of Roman dirge I like but he dose have some amusing moments in his other works.

Dirge at his Best,
This review is from: Lenore, Vol. 2: Wedgies (Issues 5-8) (v. 2) (Paperback)
Anyone interested in this product is certainly familiar with Lenore, and they will certainly be pleased. In this wonderful issue, Lenore has a tea party (actually, my first experience with Lenore), has nightmares about an evil pumpkin-tentacle monster caused by the "toof hairy," is attacked by a creature "what came from the poopy chair," and more.
This issue is also filled with extra features, including a couple of colored strips, a lot of pinups, and an introduction by Ogre from the band Skinny Puppy. Did I mention this is a good issue? |
