5.0 out of 5 stars great laptop for the price
I purchased this laptop a little over a week ago and I love it! It's light in weight compared to the old Compaq Presario laptop I have. I did upgrade to 3GB RAM (maximum 4GB) to help Vista run faster. It's burns pics to CD's with no problem. Has alot of features of a desktop computer. I haven't tried playing a movie yet. Speakers are a little tinny-sounding. No surprise...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor laptop
Hi, we purchased some Lenovos, and right away when they arrived things started going south. Poor touch pad caused all kinds of little annoyances. Had to make adjustments there. Then, both HD totally failed. Got replacements, but all the headaches of re-doing all the configurations. Had to do it twice. Yuk. My first thought was to send them back, replace with another...

5.0 out of 5 stars great laptop for the price, March 24, 2009

This review is from: Lenovo 3000 N500 Notebook 2GHz 15.4" 1GB RAM 160GB HDD - Model 423352U (Personal Computers)
No surprise there, so I just purchased inexpensive external speakers and that helped. It comes with Vista Home Basic as the OS. The Windows Picture Gallery is very basic so I downloaded Yahoo's Picasa which is fun to play with and organize/fix favorite photos. The webcam feature is fun to play with as well. I downloaded Skype and chatted with a friend in Virginia. I've read reviews about this laptop on other sites regarding the battery life only lasting between 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Not an issue for me since I have convenient wall outlets in my favorite comfy spots. The AC adapter gets a little warm but that's all. I'm only on the laptop 2 to 2 1/2 hours tops anyway. I'm too old-school for the touch pad so I disabled it and use a USB mouse. By the way, did I mention there's 4 convenient USB ports? If you're looking for an inexpensive laptop to surf, email or organize your pics, you can't go wrong with this one. I wouldn't recommend this laptop for computer games though, but I would recommend it to a friend. Hope my review helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this computer!, April 3, 2009

For the price, Its terrific. I just got mine a little over a week ago, My stepdad got an HP at the same time and his HP messed up in a matter of days! He paid almost double of what i paid for my computer. I got this computer when it was on sale for $399 and it was the best thing i've done as far as electronics go. This computer runs great and if anyone is wondering the webcam is amazing. The touchpad for the mouse takes a little getting use to though but its great once you're use to it. The most this computer needs is a memory upgrade and those are fairly cheap so the computer is worth every dime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Deal, March 21, 2009

No doubt this is an amazing deal. For a price of a good Netbook computer you get a full featured Laptop. It is not a laptop for gaming but with 2GB of RAM it runs almost every internet application prety fast.
Go grab it. I am considering buying another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars ...and 64 bit too!, July 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lenovo 3000 N500 Notebook 2GHz 15.4" 1GB RAM 160GB HDD - Model 423352U (Personal Computers)
Apart from this Lenovo having an HDMI port, which means you can connect a Blu-Ray unit to it and play back true HD, it has a 64 bit architecture. That means you could, if you know how to find the 64 bit drivers that Lenovo does not have, upgrade to 64 bit Windows Vista, and install up to 8 GB of memory, all of which is usable by the Operating System. Doing so, the graphics processor ends up with an impressive (maximum) 1760 MB of RAM, which means that, in 64 bit mode, the machine is very usable for games, and heavy duty video and graphics applications. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 running on it, with 8 GB of RAM, and the thing flies. (32 bit Windows is able to address 3.2 GB of memory at the most, ever).

Since writing the above, I have upgraded the notebook to Windows 7 Ultimate 64, a process that was relatively painless - as I write this (December, 2009) you can download an update app from the Lenovo support website, this to find and load Windows 7 specific drivers, but the Windows 7 install finds the relevant drivers without fail, for as long as you make sure the unit is connected to the internet - Windows 7 recognizes the WiFi card and offers to connect during the install, otherwise make sure you have an Ethernet router or modem connected. I have more or less dedicated my N500 to playing and creating Blu-Ray disks, using a Buffalo Blu-Ray burner. Much to my surprise, with Win 7 64 and 8 GB of RAM, the N500 plays Blu-Rays at full tilt via HDMI at 1080p with Dolby 5.1/DTS 7.1 even using a USB port (the drive has both eSATA and USB connectors).

Others wanted to work it through. Wrong decision. Watch out, hope you do not have problems like we did.

5.0 out of 5 stars LAPTOP, April 6, 2009

WHNE I BOUGHT THIS IT WAS A GREAT PRICE. AND IT WAS THE BEST VALUE FOR A GREAT LAPTOP AND DOES A LOT MORE THAN WHAT I PAID FOR. I BOUGHT IT FOR 399 AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. I RECOMMEND THIS LAPTOP, UNLESS YOU FIND A BETTER ONE. IT IS A GOOD BUY FOR A FIRST LAPTOP FOR A CHILD BEFORE MOVING UP TO SOMETHING PRICIER.
