...you know you got issues.

The drive works. Pretty okay. But seriously -- the Lenovo disk that had the freebie DVD software would not (still won't) work in this player. Maybe that's a one-off, I don't know. But it was very discouraging.

2 other issues come to mind:
- it's pricey. It's right in the middle of the price range for a portable external DVD burner. But since this is the only one I own, I can't speak to it's performance versus the others. I just know you can get good brands for less money.
- it's noisy. Not like cover-your-ears noisy, but still. Just be aware.

I still love my Lenovo X1 though. What a great little laptop (which doesn't come with any disk media drives...)

I found this product to be of great use on my Thinkpad X1 Carbon (a great, fast, lightweight & very slim product of Lenovo's) since it doesn't come with a DVD burner built-in. The only reason that I'm giving it 4 stars is because the model is definitely NOT designed to be used for those of us "road warriors" (who travel every week for work, taking several flights per week or month) for work-related reasons. I tried traveling with the unit & immediately saw that it wasn't designed to be going with a road warrior because of the lightweight plastic model that it is. If it were priced a bit cheaper I'd give it 5 stars, but given the fact that it was close to $100 or more and isn't designed to travel (my opinion), makes me think of perhaps buying other models of portable DVD burners instead of this one.

Item was not the model I had hoped it would be. The only way I came to know this was by breaking the seal to open and look at it. I did not use it . Upon return, the seller charged me because I had opened it. The amount they charged for the return, breaking the seal, and restocking charge was approximately 50% of the original cost, which I consider to be exorbitant. Last time I will do business with this seller.

I have a new Lenovo carbon x1 which does not have a dvd burner/player. I needed one to install some of my software and purchased this one and have been very satisfied with it quality & function. It is very light but not so much that it is flimsy. I would buy this again and do recommend it.

No problems, it does what it is supposed to do with no problem. It is small and tidy and is easy to carry in backpack.

This slim burner/player packs nicely with my netbook in its nylon bag. Works brilliantly, powering simply through the USB 2.0 cable. Very cool.

Bought the dvd player to work with the Lenova Yoga tablet/laptop. The set up was extremely confusing and after multiple hours of trying to figure it out - I gave up. While I think the product is nice and does the basics, its not user friendly unless you are tech savvy. So I hire an IT guy to make it work. Defeats the purpose of plug and play.

I just purchased a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop and I love the laptop. So I decided to purchase some Lenovo accessories for it including a Lenovo Slim USB Portable Burner. I paid $80 for it through the Lenovo web site.

I have two issues with this external DVD burner.

(1) It requires two (2) USB ports, not 1. My laptop has only two (2) USB ports and I don't want to tie up both ports for the burner.

(2) When I called Lenovo tech support for help with accessories like the DVD burner, the experience was very bad:

(a) Support folks speak broken/poor English.

(b) Just to get basic info such as name, address, email, phone, and product info took over 30 minutes because they kept spelling things incorrectly or kept getting the P/N or model number or S/N wrong.

(c) Once we got through that, there really wasn't anyone who could help me with the DVD burner. They basically didn't know anything more than what was in the user guide.

Did I eventually get it to work? yes. But because of the bad support experience and the fact that it requires 2 USB ports, I decided to return it.

My recommendation is to avoid Lenovo products that require technical support. The Lenovo technical support is a very bad experience.
