I purchased the Lenovo Essential G510, model 59402530, because I needed a laptop for school. I wanted something that was user-friendly, with plenty of speed and memory to last me a few years or more. Like many consumers, I had previously envisioned my next purchase would be a shiny, sleek MacBook Pro, but realistically, it was more than I was willing, or able, to spend. Instead, I sought to find something in the $500 to $800 price range, with a reputation for quality and longevity. Since I have only a basic level of understanding of computers, I took to CNET, PCMag and other tech sites in order to better educate myself. Repeatedly, I would see one brand go head-to-head with Apple in reviews; Lenovo. LAPTOP Magazine ranked Lenovo as its Second Best Notebook Brand for 2013, stating it was a brand that was "hot on Apple's heels" for the third consecutive year.

The Lenovo G510 is part of Lenovo's Essential line and is dubbed an "entry-level" laptop by its maker; meaning it doesn't necessarily have all the bells and whistles of Lenovo's ThinkPad or IdeaPad lines and tends to be more economically-priced. The Lenovo G510 has four different models to choose from with different processors, RAM and memory capacity configurations, and price tags. Model 59402530 includes a fourth generation i5 Intel processor, 8 GB SDRAM and 1 TB of hard drive memory for $899, but I was able to purchase mine from Lenovo for $575 on sale.

The exterior of the Lenovo is not sleek, and esthetically it is simple and plain, but it feels like it is durable. It weighs almost six pounds, which by today's laptop standards is pretty hefty, but I haven't felt burdened by its weight. The display is 15.

The G510 is an epic laptop, but I recommend the better model. You might as well spend the extra money to get the best G510 model, because it has a much, much better processor and pretty much better everything else.

Here's a link to the model I'm talking about: http://bit.ly/CheapG510

This model is pretty good as it is, but the better model on the Lenovo website is far superior for only slightly more money.

I bought this in local Micro Center store. The system was very slow to boot every time and used to hang frequently.
Returned it after 4 days.
