Just picked up the replacement Yoga Pro 2 I returned. The original broken one had a manufacture date of 9/30/13 and the new one was manufactured 10/28/13. This one is working great and picking up the Wifi signal right out of the box. The yellow color is still off a little but not a big deal for me and I'm confident they'll have a fix for that in the future if there's not already. Once they do that 5 stars from me.
After Lenovo "fixed" the color issue, this is a very solid notebook. I am not a graphic designer so whether or not the fix is good enough or not does not bother me. First of all, this is the windows version of a macbook/air. It is thin, light, and looks sleek with that premium feeling. The reason I chose this machine over the older yoga 2's is because the build is so much better and not cheap-like. These machines just feel very solid and sturdy. The hinges are very strong allowing for smooth use of the yoga form factor. The screen is so smooth and the touch response is very precise.
The QHD is arguably the #1 reason to own this product. Sitting next to other laptops in the store, you can see a dramatic difference between resolution. When viewing a high res image, it is almost shocking how clear and bright these pictures are. It's like a party for your eyes. It's such a pleasurable experience that it feels as if I'm using something that's too expensive or so exquisite that I find myself saving the machine for times that I actually need it (to prevent wear and tear and protect its lifespan). My only gripe is that the high res changes the scale on some applications, which can be annoying, but seriously the QHD makes it worth it. Many laptops don't even have 1080p, and this thing is double that. You've probably seen nothing like it because other devices don't go that high.
I got the yoga though also because of the form factor.Read more ›
It didn't occur to me that the problems would be unfixable and that I should immediately send back the computer I had JUST paid over a thousand dollars for. So I contacted Lenovo, and was strung along by them for a very long time. I paid about $300 to Lenovo for remote attempts at service, and was passed from person to person, and waited for things they promised but never followed through on. (e.g. They promised to send me a recovery disk so that we could wipe the whole thing clean and start fresh....but the disk never came. When I'd call and ask, they'd tell me it would come soon.) I was alternately told it was a motherboard issue, a software problem, a hardware problem.
The lesson I've learned is not to EVER again buy a computer or other expensive electronic equipment through Amazon. Lenovo was reluctant to help me at all because I didn't purchase it directly from them, even though the seller got the computer through Best Buy, a Lenovo-approved distributor. The Amazon seller didn't help me because it was past the 30-day return. (I started in with Lenovo before the 30 days, and if I'd known the issues wouldn't be resolved, I would have sent it back Day 1.) And though I was hopeful at first that Amazon would help me, I now see I've been dumped by Amazon. The people with whom I spoke have not called back --- once again, I've spent more weeks waiting while the computer I ultimately poured about $1400 dollars into (incl. the $300 I paid to Lenovo) sits unusable on my coffee table.Read more ›
