Great computer for a new undergraduate, October 13, 2010
This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 41896FU Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.20GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 14" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Personal Computers)
Not too big but everything you need.
If you want an internal DVD R/W drive this is probably the best value out there.
Sent #2 son off to college with this and he loves it.

Best Laptop YET, April 26, 2011
This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 41896FU Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.20GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 14" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Personal Computers)
So far, this is the best laptop I have ever owned. Previously a dedicated Gateway person (14in. and 15in. and loved both) and then a took a chance on a Toshiba 11in (hated it and sold it to buy this one). I have used Macs, Acer, Dell, and a number of others and none have been anywhere near as completely perfect.
The keyboard is fantastic, the processor and memory as shipped handles multiple heavy programs well, and while I do not do any gaming, I have had zero graphics issues with Desktop Publishing or standard use.
Couple of small caveats lead to a 4 Star vs 5 Star rating.
I don't like the mouse-pad select buttons feel. They must be pressed down a little farther than I like to register the selection. I am normally a button pusher rather than a pad-tapper so I have had to adjust a little for my comfort.
Another is the one-button recovery. Maybe I need to slow down a little but on more than one occasion, I have attempted to start or wake up my computer only to find that I am now in Recovery Mode. And it always happens, again, when I am in a hurry. Wish they had put that button somewhere else.
Seems there is little pieces of plastic film everywhere, to an extent I have never come across. Purely being picky now, but seriously, I am still finding "protected areas" that I cannot even access to remove the film.
And the last thing. And probably just a flook, but came back to computer after weekend away from office to find the Page Up button had popped off. Thought I could put back on as in previous laptops, but rather complicated and delicate procedure I did not have tools for. Called Lenovo, asking for local place to have very small (in my eyes) repair done.
Ended up sending the computer to TX, where they replaced the entire keyboard!
The Good. There was no cost to me and they only had the computer for 6 days. I have heard of lots worse, like three months without an actual repair occurring. And, while I did backup, it came back perfectly.
OVERALL: Fantastic, just takes a little getting used to.

Don't buy it, November 26, 2011
This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 41896FU Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.20GHz, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, DVDRW, 14" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (Personal Computers)
bought it because I had good experience with Lenovo for 5 years. But this Y450 is killing me for slow performance, sticky mouse key. So if possible don't jump this computer.
