5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good
Just got it today. It is pinker than it seems in the picture (I thought it looked sort of lavender). It's nice and tiny and light. The battery helps position the computer so that it sits up off the work surface and can breathe. The Windows 7 thing seems to be great so far: a lot better than Windows Vista. I'm not sure if it says anywhere in the description, but it...

3.0 out of 5 stars If it wasn't for the tiny keyboard, this thing would have been 4 to 5 stars
I wish I had phyically seen this netbook before buying it. The individual keys are this netbook is just too tiny compares to other netbooks. I also own a HP mini 1010 netbook, and this idealpad's keys are only about 75% in size compares to the HP. It makes very difficult to type. The overall built quality seems decent and the screen is bright enough. The unit also...

I'm not sure if it says anywhere in the description, but it comes with Word installed, which makes my life as a student much easier. I'm not a computer expert by any means, but from what I can tell, this easily will serve its purpose as an extra machine to take notes on and take to the library. It's very quick on the Internet, as well. A great deal for the money...as far as I can see.

Bottom line, if you are not going to do alot the typing, then this unit is fine. However, if you do, then you better off consider some other brands.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lenovo Netbook, January 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lenovo S10-2 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) (Personal Computers)
I am a power computer user with up to date laptop and desktop (both Dell), but my wife needed a small & light weight computer for her retirement. I surprised her with a Lenovo. It comes with 1 GB of RAM and a 160 GB HD. The HD is large enough but after 6 months of slow and sluggish switching programs (MS Office to MS Word) we added a 2 GB RAM simm and that turned a good little computer into a great little computer. The battery does last and last, my wife gets 6 hours of untethered use and that is great. My high power laptop barley gets 90 minutes. My suggestion is go for the Lenovo.

One side note...when I purchased this I had MS Office (Small Business) that was allowed a 2nd installation. I wanted to put it in the Lenovo but with NO CD ROM, I was up against a wall. I called Lenovo and their (overseas) tech support wanted me to spend $150 to get help installing a new copy (it comes with an intro version of MS Office, but you need to pay for its installation). My solution was simple and easy and, the best part, there was no extra cost. I opened the CD ROM on my laptop by exploring the disk. I then copied all the files (Control A) to a Flash Drive. I took the Flash Drive to the Lenovo and installed as if it were a CD ROM. It worked flawlessly and I used the same technique with all the software I used.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice cheap computer for itunes and internet, October 30, 2009

This review is from: Lenovo S10-2 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) (Personal Computers)
Huge fan of Lenovo computers. I have one for work and they are very strong and reliable. I'm day 5 with this netbook as so far it's doing exactly what I need it to do. I bought mine with Windows 7 starter and it's not too bad. I am upgrading the memory from 1 GB to 2 GB as it's a little too slow for my taste.

Overall I think it's a good second computer for internet and travel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice netbook but little windows 7, November 29, 2009

I purchased this mainly to pay bills and search the web. It is nice and light and easy to carry. The front cover is glossy and scratches easy so you may want a cover. The color is Mauve one review said it was pink but the only pink I see is inside by the keyboard and it is a small amount. I am dissapointed in the windows 7 because they have installeda starter verson that doesn't let you do any customizing you have to upgrade in order to do this . Upgrade is another 79.99. You can not change the wallpapers with out this upgrade and they only provide one. I think it would be better if they made this was more up front . I'm thinking about sending mine back for this reason and return it for a small laptop that has the full windows 7 version.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is not that great.... there are much better / cheaper options out there, February 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchase this as a gift for my mother and let me start by saying that the Floral Sea imprint of this Netbook is the best feature the rest is just average.

The hardware is pretty standard for Netbooks:

1.6GHz Intel N270 Atom Processor.................. Seems to work juts "OK" takes a long time to boot though

1GB (200-Pin) DDR2 SO-DIMM Memory............. Kind of slow at time it could use 2GB of Ram

160GB 5400RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive.............. More than enough for a Netbook

802.11b/g Wireless Connectivity...................... Works pretty good on my home Network (802.11 g/n)

10.1" (1024x600) 16:9 LED Display................... Good size for a Netbook but not great for long use

Intel GMA950 Graphics................................... Plays very well youtube and standard definition videos

Windows 7 Starter Edition............................... Works well but there is little option for customization possibilities

Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life........................... Not quite 6 Hours of Battery Life more like a solid 4 hours

Overall this is a good option but beware that you can get the same hardware for less money. My advise is to look into the acer aspire one line of Netbooks before you decide for this one. I purchase this one because my mother really like the Floral Sea imprint and in the spirit of Christmas I want to give her the Netbook she wants.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and small netbook but big Battery, December 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lenovo S10-2 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) (Personal Computers)
The netbook is excelent to travel and use everywhere with less pounds than a normal laptop but the battery is too big so you can't put the netbook into a portfolio. The netbook could be perfect with a smaller battery.

Nice pink/lavender color, good display, overall good Lenovo quality. The only things I'll change is upgrade to Windows 7 Home and change out the 1gb sodimm for a 2gb.

Very happy with the quality compared to other netbooks that just feel cheap.

It's a netbook so the atom processor is not a screamer. Will do simple tasks well, and it's easy to pack and travel with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Netbook, poor OS selection, April 9, 2010

With the S10-2 Lenovo played a game of give and take.

On the outside, the netbook looks and feels cheap. Everything is plastic -- even the metal looking bits. This makes for a very light netbook, and one that can survive a drop without much damage [speaking from experience]. Even the decorative colors look like a half-hearted attempt at dressing this device up. Finally, the battery has a hump in it that allows device to sit at an angle. This is a great feature because it allows the netbook too cool efficiently, but at the same time makes S10-2 a bit thick. If aesthetics are important to your computing devices this might not be the netbook for you.

The inside bits show where Lenovo paid attention. The keyboard, although not full size, is large enough type comfortably on, and the keys have excellent tactile feedback. The screen is glossy (but not overwhelmingly), responsive, and bright. My eyes say image quality on the screen isn't as good as my Macbook Pro or Macbook, but on par with my Dell E6500. The camera is a 1.2 megapixel device with great image quality. The Intel GMA950 Graphics is plenty of GPU to do what this netbook is designed to do; surf the web, read e-mail, and video conferencing. Netbooks and laptops often exhibit signal interference from their own componentry when you listen to audio with good quality headphones/earbuds -- not so with Lenovo S10-2. The audio components are excellent, even the tiny speakers perform well; in fact I would say the audio is better quality than all three of my afore mentioned laptops. Wired and wireless networking is just as fast and stable as all my other mobile networking devices. Finally, the N270 processor can perform all these tasks without the netbook feeling sluggish (if you use the correct OS), thanks to it's dual core nature.

However, where the S10-2 falls flat is the choice in Operating Systems. I am a fan of Windows 7; it's a solid operating system, and I enjoy using it on my Dell. However the "Starter" edition of Windows 7 is simply something Microsoft created to so you would pay for upgrade. It is too limited (unless your an advanced user, you won't even be able to change your desktop background) it wants far more processor, more GPU, and more memory than this netbook can provide. A memory upgrade to 2GB will keep you from wanting to pull your hair out, but the real solution here is to change your OS to something designed to run small devices [not a task for non-technical users].
