This review is from: Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Gray Netbook - 6 Cell Battery (Tools & Home Improvement)
Several netbooks including Acer, Asus, HP and etc were considered before buying the S10-2. I eliminated Acer and Asus due to the 'cheap' looking plastic quality of the device and lack of quality support. I ultimately decided on Lenovo S10-2 based on my past experience with the quality of IBM ThinkPad (since Lenovo is the old ThinkPad biz). Also, the support was great when I had a question regarding the product. Also, the OneKey Recovery is a great feature on this NetBook to "reset" without a CD or download.
Battery life is better than expected. Depending on use, I can go as long as 8 hour without recharging. Overall, I would recommend this product to my friends and family.

Liked it, bought another,
This review is from: Lenovo S10-2 10-Inch Gray Netbook - 6 Cell Battery (Tools & Home Improvement)
I highly recommend this netbook.
A key reason I bought a second S10 when I needed (OK, wanted) another netbook: I've dropped the first about a dozen times, knocking it off the armrest of an easy chair onto carpet, about 2.5 feet down, and the Lenovo has kept working all this time. (OK, I should be more careful with it, but its hardiness has actually enabled me.) I bought the previous version of the Lenovo S10 as a stopgap; my full-size laptop caught a virus while I was away from home for weeks and I didn't have time to clean it up. I ended up using the S10 a lot, and discovered that it did all the vanilla stuff I do most of the time. Then it caught a virus while I was away from home, and I was able to use the OneKey feature to wipe out everything back to factory settings. That worked great (as long as you've backed up your stuff before a virus). The latest S10-2 has longer battery life, and is sleeker and more polished. Nice job on the update, Lenovo. (The S10-2 comes in pink, green, gray and black, which I chose.) I sure didn't buy the first S10 for its boxy, utilitarian looks, so the redesign was a pleasant surprise.

Fine unless you need to rebuild ... and your warranty ended,

We have purchased at least six different brands of netbooks at our workplce to test them out and determine which ones offer the best performance and durability. The Lenovo was among the contenders, and it performed acceptably (although we prefer Toshiba and Samsung models). The problem we had with the Lenovo was that it shipped without an operating system (recovery) disk. So when the netbook obtained a boot-sector virus, there was no option but to re-format the hard drive. No included operating system disk meant that we were forced to call Lenovo for assistance. Lo, they told us that our warranty had run out 72 hours ago, so there was nothing they could do for us. Oh, but if we would purchase an upgraded warranty, then they could help.
There was no indication that this netbook wouldn't ship with an OS (recovery) disk. It should have. More importantly, we were disappointed that Lenovo wouldn't reach out to help with such a short window of expiration on the warranty. No more Lenovos for us. If you DO purchase this product, I would suggest contacting the company for a recovery disk before your warranty runs out. Hopefully they will send you one.
