Would this be a good computer for school work and internet browsing. Also is it easy to use for computer illiterates like myself, i.e. low maintainenc Feb 26, 2014
I think you'd like this laptop. Ease of use is more an operating system issue than the computer itself. This laptop comes with Windows 7 AND Windows 8 so you have a choice. A lot of people prefer the older Windows 7 environment and that's what's loaded. If you decide to move to Windows 8, the disks are provided for that. The computer itself is well laid out and the touch-pad works well as do the other features like the WiFi. As with any computer, there will be a learning curve, so don't expect to jump in without a little training or help. This laptop would be excellent for school and internet use. Nothing to maintain except the battery (needs a charge ever so often), and the keyboard is shielded so it's less prone to dust & gunk than some models.
They are VERY good! I'm very impressed! They are nice and loud. I actually turn my volume down to 80%.
How well does it run Ubuntu? Mar 2, 2014
It depends on whether or not this PC has BIOS chip or the new EFI that microsoft machinated for with its forcing the dog Windows 8 on consumers. Beware, they are now pushing to dominate cell phones & Tablets with their sorry highly proprietary Surface OS.
Is this the 7200 rpm hdd,, the compare to, specifications say it is, but not the other specs on this page above. thanks. Sep 2, 2014
It depends on where you get the unit. Amazon has several sources and at least one of those offers an upgrade to the 7200rpm hard drive. The basic unit comes with a 5200rpm HD. You can upgrade yourself but you need a way to clone the old drive to the upgrade (or you can create a set of recovery disks, and then load them after you make the upgrade). Swapping out the drive is easy.
Is it a reliable, processor stable, good enough household laptop for the money. One could pay much more but I like an optical drive. Aug 14, 2014
I have not had an issue with this lap top, running light room on it and if it can handle that it will handle just about anything. just a great unit, very happy with it so far
The "preferred" vendor changes hourly... Since the computer is what it is, I'd love to hear feedback regarding which vendor(s) to stay away from;) Apr 13, 2014
My computer came from the Laptop Authority. It was sent quickly and arrived when expected. It was packaged well and showed no sign of mishandling. The price was the best I could find at the time. I would certainly recommend this vendor.
No, this model comes only with an HDD. SSD is possible, but you can either upgrade it yourself or order a custom-built system at Lenovo. The reason why you will not find an SSD in standard reseller configurations is because SSD adds up to the cost quite a bit, and this particular series is targeting a lower price audience. Since it doesn't have SSD, there is no TRIM feature either.
Will Windows Adobe Creative Suite 3 install with no problems? I currently use it on a XP Pro platform. Mar 4, 2014
All of my old Adobe programs installed fine. (Lightroom 3 ETC) I would ask adobe though. Windows 7 PRO has special features to let you run very old programs. It should work.
