4.0 out of 5 stars x120e May 25, 2011

I was nervous at first because this is the base model and 1gb of memory was too slow to do pretty much anything. I ordered more memory (two 2gb) which was extremely easy to install (only 3 screws to remove entire back panel). The laptop is running a lot smoother now and I can have multiple internet pages up easily. Facebook flash games load with no problem and that was an issue with a Samsung netbook I had.

The build quality is great. The keyboard took a little bit of time to adjust to because I'm not use to having a trackpoint (which is actually nice to have). Heat isn't an issue with this laptop - I've watched a movie on Netflix and it didn't seem warm at all after two hours. Battery life isn't great compared to the netbook I had. With the screen brightness turned down nearly all the way (it gets very dim!) it was saying I had 3.5hrs left. I haven't really tested if that is accurate time estimation or not. Trackpad is just awful. Scrolling is slow to respond and the multi touch functions work only half the time. I've gotten use to it now and widened the area to use for scrolling and disabled some options to make it usable.

Pros
- Size
- Keyboard feels great and easy to clean
- Matte everything - no fingerprints or glare!
- HDMI works perfectly to hook up to a TV to watch shows online
- 3 USB ports
- Comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and not starter edition like a lot of netbooks

Cons
- Battery life (better battery can be bought)
- Speakers are on the bottom edge of the laptop
- Trackpad is one of the worst even after adjusting the settings

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent computer for $299.- November 6, 2011

Although some people were saying 'stay aware of this base model', I gave it a try and I bought 2 of this Lenovo x120E. I also added 4 GB of memory Ram for both of them.

I am really happy with them as they are light, powerful, durable, and nice looking. They are definitely NOT a netbook.

I would really recommend this producto for anyone like me who was looking for portable, light and inexpensive notebook for daily office use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Inadequate RAM, otherwise good October 3, 2011

If you are planning on buying this laptop, definitely plan on adding in some RAM. The computer, as shipped, is barely functional with the 1GB of RAM. But it is cheap and easy to add in an additional 4GB, at which point the computer runs just fine and is pretty snappy in performance.

Other than that, the case feels a bit cheap, and I have had some problems with keys sticking on the keyboard. Decent computer for the money, but expect a few shortcomings.

I've been using this notebook for the last few weeks. And I use it with Ubuntu desktop instead of Windows. Notebook works well. I very much like the size; it is very portable. My only complaint is the wireless card make internet connection a little slow. Definitely worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little laptop October 8, 2011

I am using this laptop for 2weeks now, for watching movies from hard disk and streaming movies from Internet, it's attached to my big LCD TV, you can use HDMI or VGA cable. The 1GB is not acceptable, so I recommend to buy it with the 4GB (additional 25$ only) immediately during ordering the laptop. Until I installed the 4GB it was pain, very slow.
Now the speed is ok. I also bought wireless remote controls for laptop - keyboard and touch pad in one, to control the laptop from sofa :-).

The laptop keyboard is very comfortable, better than on my 10in Eee. Now being able to use 10in Eee and 12in Lenovo, the few extra inches are deeply appreciated during typing and the laptop is still very portable.

I recommend to buy it with 4GB.

Update after 6 months:
There is still no issue with this laptop. It's perfect. I am using this laptop primary for online movies and streaming from web and is conected to my LCD TV and home cinema system. Secondary I am using this for web surfing, emails, Facebook, not really for games. This is good quality and budget laptop for all my daily things I need....
The only issue, which I new upfront, is the short battery life which is only 2-2.5hr compare to 4-5hr of my wife's Assus Eee, with much stronger baterry of course. I am thinking to upgrade the battery if I see a good deal...

I can again after 1/2 year to recomend this laptop to anyone...

Update 03NOV2012:
Still no issue with this laptop. it is working well. I am considering "non branded" stronger 6cell battery thoug, the 3cell bat last for about 2hr only.

honestly I was a little worried about the 11' inch having a comfortable keyboard, but i must say that this keyboard is just as comfortable as the lenovo big keyboard i have for my desktop, is amazing that a little 11' screen has such amazing keyboard i can code all day here and write emails without having to shrink my hands and honestly ive got pretty big hands, BTW as soon as u get this go to the store and get x2 4gb memory sticks they must be ddr3 :) im running this with 8 gb ddr3 and is smooth, running scientific linux 6.1, love it ... nice portable machine GJ thinkpad I'm impressed on price and keyboard 5/5

3.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from the base version of this model August 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Netbook looks nice out of the box and is pretty decent compared to others but don't expect to do much other then simple web surfing and even that, only after you increase the 1gig ram. I am a user who likes having many pages open and do several tasks simultaneously and unfortunately that is too much ask from a single core processor.
