Great Mother's Day Gift from a Son,

This review is from: Lenox Disney Showcase Mrs. Potts & Chip (Kitchen)
I thought the mother/son theme of this set would make an unusual, but appropriate Mother's Day gift for my wife (who happens to be a big Disney enthusiast). So, after consulting with my 3-year-old son (of course), we decided this set would be this year's Mother's Day gift. I was slightly hesitant because it's always hard to discern what you're going to get when it comes to collectables like this. The product photos invariably make the item look perfect, but frequently, reality tells a different story. I did have a certain degree of trust in the Lenox brand to not release complete garbage though, so I went for it. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase, but there are a couple of things worth noting. The first thing to note is that Chip (the teacup) does not have the spout in back, as pictured in the main product photo. After first I was annoyed by this, but then I re-watch some clips from Beauty and the Beast because, frankly, I didn't remember which way was correct and, indeed, the actual character does not have the spout. So this is more of a fault with the photo and not a fault with the actual product. It's still something worth noting, however (it did not affect my star rating). [EDIT] As Kelly kindly pointed out in the comments section of this review, the above interpretation of the photo is wrong. Chip is not pictured with a spout at all. The angle of the photo created an illusion (for me anyway) of Chip having a spout. Really, it's just a triangular-shaped "chip" and, what looked like a spout, is just a continuation of the top portion of the cup. This didn't affect my star rating anyway, but I just wanted to clarify. [/EDIT] I deducted half a star because the two figurines are much smaller than I was expecting. As of this writing, there is no indication of the physical size of these, so I suppose I was assuming they would be closer to actual-size (the teacup would be teacup-sized and the teapot would be teapot-sized). This isn't true though. In reality, Chip is about 2 inches high and Mrs. Potts is just under 4 inches high. I deducted another half-star because the gold plating around the rim of Chip is a little flawed toward the back (as if a little had flaked off or had been scratched). Thankfully, it's minor and not immediately obvious. But for the price (combined with the size), I expect perfection. Those two negatives are the only negatives. The figurines are otherwise very nice. The pearlescent ball which serves as the handle on Mrs. Potts' lid is beautiful (the lid is not removable, by the way). The paint and attention to detail are both fantastic (with the exception of the gold rim on chip, explained earlier). The ivory is obviously of high quality and exhibits a nice luster. There are a couple of flaws, but I'd still recommend this set (as a Mother's Day gift or otherwise); my son and I are both excited for Mommy to open it!

When I ordered this set I thought it would be a little bigger than what it turned out to be, but how beautiful and detailed that it was deffidently made up for it!
