Great glasses, extremely poor packing,
By James Yeager (Winterville, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lenox Tuscany Classics Martini, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
I was a little concerned ordering these glasses based on some of the comments regarding breakage. I was right to be concerned....3 of the 4 glasses arrived broken. When I looked in the box, there was NO PACKING MATERIAL around the glasses of any sort! I don't know how they can ship glass that way. Regardless, I'm giving the glasses a 4/5 because the one that arrived unbroken is a really nice glass and I'd love to have 3 more just like it ;)The replacements arrived today via FedEx and they were all fine. Amazon was great about replacing them within days and getting the new ones here undamaged. They are awesome glasses.

Before purchasing, I read other reviews indicating there was a risk of damage during shipment, but the brand, size and price drove me to take the risk. Can you say worst case scenario? All four glasses were broken into small pieces. The Lenox packaging is barely suitable for carry out retail, and incredibly poor for shipment. Each glass was NOT individually wrapped. There was no tissue or cushoning material within the Lenox package or surrounding each glass, as another reviewer had noted.Unless Amazon requires Lenox to pack them for shipment, do not repeat my mistake! I can't for the life of me understand how anyone in the shipping department could have believed they were adequately protected.

Amazon STILL doesn't know how to ship them,
This review is from: Lenox Tuscany Classics Martini, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
Judging by the picture on the box, these glasses are beautiful. However, the large pile of shattered crystal I have received both times has been rather disappointing.
Amazon has sent these glasses to me twice, both times with the same result. They simply place the Lenox box within an Amazon box. The Lenox box is packed well within the Amazon box, but the glasses have no padding or dividers within the Lenox box. They smash each other to pieces during shipment. I would love to have these glasses, but I have yet to receive even one intact. Amazon has been very responsive and helpful with the returns. My only complaint is with the method of shipping.

Beware, not 6 oz but 11 oz,

These are beautiful glasses - I love the slightly flaired shape. The packaging was fine with lots of bubble wrap around the original box and there was bubble wrap around the glasses in the Lenox box. All four arrived unbroken. The third party fulfiller did an excellent job, they shipped within 24 hours and arrived the day before they said they would arrive.
Now the problem. I have 4 oz Martini/cocktail glasses and 8 oz Martini/cocktail glasses. The 4 oz are good for an old school smaller size Martini or Manhatten which were typically served in 3 to 4 oz glasses). But it can be easy to get them too close to full and people can't walk around with the cocktail. The 8 oz glasses are relatively useless unless you like those horrid frozen Margarita's. I can buy Libbey 6 oz glasses at a local restaurant supply store but they will only sell them in a 36 count case for close to one hundred dollars. So I saw these glasses that were listed at 6 oz and thought - perfect. When the glasses came I compared them to my current 8 oz glasses and they are bigger and taller. The measuring cup said it took 11 oz to the point were it was ready to overflow. At 8 oz you could walk around with a full glass and not slosh. But how many drinks are there that aren't served in a tall collins glass approach 8 oz? I can't think of any. A classic Martini recipe is 2 oz of gin, 1 oz of dry vermouth, a couple dashes of orange bitters and stirred enough (about 30 seconds) to chill and give up about an oz of water to smooth the drink out. That will end up being 3 oz of spirit and 1 oz of water; too much for a 4 oz glass but perfect for a 6 oz. FWIW if you use a good gin and great vermouth this will be the best Martini you ever had. Try Portero, or Plymouth for the gin. What will make this is avoiding the cheap vermouths in the 4 to 5 dollar range (like Tribuno or Stock), skipping the 9 to 10 dollar vermouths like Martine & Rossi and Noilly Pratt and using top quality Dolin Vermouth (about 15 to 16 dollars). After opening keep it refridgerated. You will learn real quickly what made the Martini so popular. And serve it in a 6 oz glass. So are there any decent, actual 6 oz glasses out there, that don't require purchasing two or three dozen? Update on 3/9/2011. I have decided to return these. In their place I ordered Bormioli Rocco Ypsilon Stemware Martini Glasses, Set of 6. I recieved them today and they are exactly what I wanted when I ordered the Lenox glasses. They are also listed as a 6 oz glass although the box lists them as 8 1/4 oz. In reality a 4 1/2 oz cocktail fills the glass to within 5/8" of the rim - 5 oz will work also. To me this is just the right size for a traditional Martini or Manhatten. The glasses have a beautiful flare to them and feel substantial.

I ordered a set of these glasses and was very greatful that they arrrived in once piece. Lenox did not package these glasses for shipment and there is nothing more than a bit of thin cardboard between each glass for protection. The glasses were certainly not individually wrapped. Amazon.com used a great deal of the air-bag packaging to protect the glasses. Thanks to some careful shipping, they arrived undamaged. The glasses are absolutey beautiful. The stems are a little longer than a standard martini glass creating a very delicate, classy look. Unfortunately, the first night I used the glasses, I accidently bumped the edge of one with a shaker causing the glass to shatter. Please be warned that these glasses are especially fragile. I plan to investigate the claim by Amazon that the glasses are "Backed by Lenox's lifetime replacement policy." Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information in the box about this policy.

OK. the glass itself is mis-described. This is easily an eight plus ounce glass, NOT six.
Though the packaging was exactly as other people found it to be, we received four perfect glasses. Too bad they aren't the elusive six oz. martini glass offered in the details ;(

Overall I adore Lenox Tuscany and would recommend anything in the collection. These martini glasses are especially lovely. Now, I order a lot of glassware from Amazon and I usually have no trouble. Once I had some difficulty ordering the Grand Beaujolais glasses from this collection (i.e. they got broken two times in shipment). However, I have now ordered these martini glasses twice (once for my cousin in 11/06, and just now for myself 04/07), and had no problems with shipping. The glasses arrived both to my cousin and to myself with no breakage, not even a chip. They're beautiful, go ahead and order them.

I bought this item as a wedding gift, the bride was pleased. Of course, the gift was her choice and on her wish list. I was very happy with the free shipping and the prompt delivery. Your service is superb.
