You are aware that this is a Nikon lens, and Nikon lenses are not compatible with Canon cameras. I don't have any experience with Canon lenses, but here is one that seems similar enough:

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II Telephoto Zoom Lens (discontinued by manufacturer)

good luck, alex

Nikon lenses with the AF-S desgination are compatible with the D60 and D40 as well as the D5000, D3000, and D3100. Other lenses are with the AF designation are also compatible...you just have to focus them manually.

Alex, I have a Nikon D-40 with a 55-200 ED lens (not a VR) and a 18-55. Do you know if the 55-300 ED VR AF-s DX would work with my D-40? And if it did, would it be markedly better than my 55-200? I take a lot of surf shots of my kids and sometimes when they're way "outside", I find the 200 mm doesn't quite make the grade. Thanks for any thoughts!

It's compatible with both the D60 and D40: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm
Grant, it's phenomenal and I would definitely recommend it over the 200; that extra 100mm goes a long way and I'm most often using this lens for that range!

I'm going to purchase the 55-300 for my D3100 what type of filter is best for this type of lens.I've looked at several listings but I'm not sure of multi or single and 52mm,67mm.Also no need to spend more then is needed.Lens will be used for vacations and regular photography.

I just won a Nikon 5100 camera. Which is the best zoom lens for a beginner - 55-300 or the 70-300? And is the 2X extender able to work with either lens?
Thanks,

I share this question with Tonytex and would hope someone would respond. I own two Nikon D80s and find the reviews on the 55-300 quite helpful. If this lens is compatible with the D80, I would proceed to checkout.

If you have found your answer elsewhere, would you please post it here. It seems like someone with Nikon somewhere would respond. Thank you.
