5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamy, inspiring goodness! December 10, 2011
Style Name:Pentax K|Amazon Verified Purchase
This lens baby was an upgrade for me, as I previously purchased the lens baby 2.0 a few years back. I am extremely pleased with the updates to the design on the composer pro. I still can achieve dreamy, toy camera like images, but now I can do so with much greater accuracy and consistency.

The removal of the bellows is what allows for greater consistency. You are now able to lock your focus in, which does make for easier shooting. With the previous model I felt very limited as to when I would use it during a wedding. It was too time consuming and I felt awkward fumbling with the bellows and trying to take a picture at the same time. The composer pro is different. Since shooting with it is easier, I do use it at several points during a wedding shoot.

I appreciate that the construction is sturdier than before. It has a much more solid feel. Focusing on the composer pro is smooth, too. I had tried a composer (non pro model) at a camera store before purchasing. They did not have the pro version, but focusing still felt a little jerky to me, so that is why I decided on the pro model when I made the purchase. I also feel that the overall construction of the pro (which features more metal than the non pro version) is better and worth the extra money.

To get the most out of your lensbaby, add some accessories. They are by no means required, but they are fun and can add some versatility to the product. So far I have added the macro kit and the creative aperture kit. I have several other accessories on my wish list!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little lens! October 14, 2011
Style Name:Nikon|Amazon Verified Purchase
This lens is a ton of fun! If you give it a little patience, it will reward you with some amazing photographs. NOTE: if you think you can instantly be creative just because you have this lens, you are wrong. Look for vibrant colors. Experiment with the aperture discs, and maybe get the creative aperture kit (star and heart background blur = dreamy!)

Just get it. You'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant Creativity. August 6, 2011
Style Name:Nikon|Amazon Verified Purchase
This lens takes some getting used to, both in the focusing and metering. If you can get through the first couple of weeks of practice you can produce some very unique shots. I use this for portraits and landscapes and love it when people ask "how??".

I am a Photoshop monkey, but this lens creates blur that you just can't duplicate. I love it on my D700 and my D70.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this lens! July 28, 2012
Style Name:Canon|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a long-time fan of the Lensbaby, and the Composer Pro is the best in their line. This is actually the second Composer Pro I have bought (I also have one for my Olympus 4/3 mount, and plan on buying one for the Micro 4/3 mount), and I purchased it to replace a Composer lens, which finally broke after years of use. The action on the Composer Pro (both the focusing ring as well as the gimbal) is much smoother than on the Composer, the construction and material quality appears to be better, and it is an esthetic match with my 5D as well.

Is it worth the extra money? Depending on your usage, maybe or maybe not. If you are only a casual Lensbaby user, then the Composer may be sufficient for your needs. However, if you depend on the lens being there for you when you need it (and I pretty much use my 5D exclusively with the Lensbaby), then the extra cost is IMO well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lens Baby, oh, Baby! February 9, 2012
Style Name:Nikon|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is a learning curve, like with most new concepts. It takes awhile to find the sweet spot, but it's well worth it. The images are amazing. All I can say is practice, practice, practice and you will be rewarded with stunning images.

4.0 out of 5 stars Need to use it more February 2, 2012

A great lens to play with...I haven't used it as much as I'd hoped. The control on the lens is good - I have a Lensbaby 2.0 also and like the Composer's ability to lock in a position. Good for artistic work - I just need to get out and use it more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I had expected January 11, 2012

I learned about Shift and Tilt lenses while on shoot with my one of my favorite photographers. I fell in love with the "sweet spot" focus effect and immediately wanted one for my Nikon D5000.

I decided to try out the Lensbaby Composer Pro. For such a little guy, this lens delivers a great impact. I use my Vivitar 285hv with it and have gotten really great results. The images I have captured are very whimsical and fun, and this lens is so simple to use. The only thing I have to mention is that adjusting apperature is a little inconvienient. You have to insert little plates into the lens, but it's not that big of a deal. I don't change it that often and usually leave the plates out in general. This lens is also completely manual, which is fine for me but others prefer a lens with an auto focus.

Overall, great product for a great price. I love my LB, and the packaging was really nice too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lensbaby Composer Pro with Double Glass Optic November 20, 2011

What a fun lens- And what unique looking shots you can take with htis lens. Althouygh not the sharpest lens in my bag, this lens allows me to get creative in ways that regular lenses don't. Used wide open- this lens creates a very nice blurr vignet that focusses attention on the subject- sure, you could create a blurr in photoshop- but in my experience, it just isn't the same quality blurr as a lensbaby creates in camera.

I don't really use the tilt part of the lens that much, as I find that the blurr looks kinda odd when it's off center- but I asuppiose the tilt would be fine with a smaller aperature that decreases the blurr.

The lens is super light, works very smoothly, is fairly easy to focus (although and autofocus capability would have been nice), and it isn't too hard to change aperatures- although it would be nice to have the ability to change the aperature without having to physically change aperature pieces by hand. I just leave the aperature at F/2 or Wide open, as I'm mostly looking to create the lensbaby blurr when I use this lens.

I ended up getting several of the accessory lenses such as the pinhole, zoneplate, macro, etc, but really they aren't much use. The macro adaptor is just mediocre sharpness-wise- and the zoneplate is very dark when looking through viewfinder and is hard to use for good results unless you really know how to use and maniplate a zoneplate for good results- same for the pinhole. The one lens I do like is the plastic lens which gives a very blurred image and some really nice kaLiedascope colors across the photo when used right, which I suppose sounds gimmicky, but can create some very unique photos when done right.
