i purchased a dog off ultrasonic dog trainer.i have now returned it as it is useless, i have tried the dog off button on a total of 27 dogs and not one of them gave any reaction too the so called ultrasonic waves.i then asked my local dog trainer what he thought of it, he said the idea is good but this product is not

First of all, the strap and belt holder parts fall off. Next, the switch to turn on the flashlight goes defunct and drops into the unit so you can only turn it on with a fingernail or object. I've had it maybe 5 months.

Does it scare off loose dogs? I don't know because they seem to ignore it totally. I think it's not nearly strong enough. It certainly isn't sturdy enough to withstand being carried around!
Plus it's bulky/big and isn't small like a cell phone or other device to carry.

I ordered this product five years ago because my neighbor refused to tie up her very aggressive dog. Before I had this item, I could not go outside without a fear of being attacked. I didn't think it would work, but I tried it on the dog when he approached me growling, and he immediately stopped, turned around and ran away. I was so happy I couldn't believe it. Ever since then this item has been a godsend. I really haven't had to use it much, but when I have it's been invaluable. I got my parents one and it helped them greatly when they were training their dog. He is very friendly but huge, and has a habit of jumping on people when he gets excited. Every time he would do that my parents would use the Dog-Off and he would immediately stop and sit down. Now he doesn't jump on people at all. I don't know about the other reviewers, but my device has never had a problem functioning, or have had anything brake on it and I have dropped it many times. It's very beat up looking now, but it still works fine. It does make a sound but you can't really hear it unless you hold it up to your ear (which I don't recommend; it's kind of unpleasant). The only problem I have with this, is that the "Human Off" component is attached to the wrist strap and it pulls out very easily, making it very impractical for hanging around your wrist (unless you enjoy hearing 120 decibel alarms). I have seen other models where the wrist strap is not attached to the alarm, though. I would recommend this product for anyone with the same problem I had: an aggressive dog with an irresponsible owner living in a city where animal control is a joke. It saved me a lot of trouble, and made going outside enjoyable again.

I purchased this item as an experiment for repelling crows (who like to sit on a phone wire outside my bedroom and CAW every morning at 5am). It didn't work for the crows, but it did work for the neighbor's tiny dog. Whenever the neighbor leaves home, the little dog barks incessantly, sometimes for hours on end. The dog usually stays on the back porch when the owner is away. When I sounded the siren (inaudible to me) from the fence dividing our property the dog went inside (where the dog continued to bark incessantly, but the improvement was significant). When the dog came back out about 10 mins later, I sounded the siren again, same results. From that point on, the dog might come outside for a few minutes every 20 mins to 1/2 hour, and then right back inside, which is much more tolerable than the constant yapping.
In addition to working on the little dog, it also worked on my cat. I never saw her hair stand on end like that before. Perhaps it will work for male cats that like to stalk my house (and mark their territory). That will be my next experiment.
Since it really wasn't designed for crows (but worth the gamble because crow repellents start at $300.00 - the going rate is $600.00), I take the crow experiment out of the equation and would say I am 100% satisfied.

Our sweet but stubborn lab barks loudly anytime she hears a door open or worse, anytime she thinks she hears a door open or when she thinks that somebody might be about to open a door or sometimes when she is just thinking about anything that resembles a door or reminds her, however remotely, of a door knob. This little device worked perfectly on our dear Daisy May--a quick press of the magic button and she stopped barking--until it broke. The extremely audible human deterring panic siren went on for some unknown reason and wouldn't turn off. The darn dog started barking again and never stopped. Today, I will order another one (a Dog-Off, not a dog).

My mother is afraid of dogs so she rarely jogs outside ... I bought this for her, but it doesn't seem to work as well as advertised ... we never use it since it is large and really no use.

i bought this product because i work as a residential building maintenance tech. , and ive had many close calls with aggresive dogs.
a month ago i finally got bit by a doberman pincer. the day after i recieved this product, i used it on every dog i came across. it had no effect whatsoever.
the only thing it would be good for if an aggresive dog was coming at you would be to throw it at the dog...and even then its such a cheap light weight plastic......useless

I had a problem similar to Rick in Arizona (below). This product worked great to stop my dog from jumping up, getting into the garbage, etc. However, the cat knocked it off the counter--not much of a fall, but it caused that God-forsaken, eardrum-splitting panic alarm to go off non-stop. I tried to take the whole contraption apart, but there was no way to fix it--the only way to get the alarm to go off was to take out the battery. Had to throw it in the garbage.

I like to walk for excersize. I am not a fan of dogs I do not know personally, espically big ones. During my hikes for health I would encounter too many intimidating, growling, teeth barring 4 legged "friends". I purchased this item, put the batteries in and took a walk. I could not believe the difference. No more dogs interupting my strolls. Best yet they just turn and walk away. Painless for me and them. Highly recommend you give this a try.

This product really works when used at the immediate moment the bad behavior is happening. It has been used to stop my dog from barking excessively. I triggered it at the exact moment he started to bark, did that several times and now when I show it to him, he behaves. By the way, I give a firm "no" at the same time I click the button. Takes a little practice.
