2.0 out of 5 stars Pet Chime
In December 2002, I purchased the pet chime and paw & two additional paws. I was extremely satisfied with them until the past couple of weeks. In the past couple of weeks 2 paws have stopped working for unknown reasons and repeated emails and phone calls have gone unanswered by Lentek. They're great, IF THEY WORK!

One of my dogs was only shown this once & she started using it right away, my other dog took a while. Funny story... I've had this product about a month now. Today it is raining (my dog doesn't like the rain as it gets in her face annoying her) today the doggie door was open but because it was raining she pressed the dog doorbell... she wanted me to turn off the rain, lol! Didn't work, but she tried!! I love this product & so do my dogs. Its well worth the investment & fun to train! *two thumbs up from us*

5.0 out of 5 stars Pet Chime Doorbell, February 23, 2006

This works great! However, be aware that once your dog learns how to use it, they really use! I think she is taking advantage of it a little bit. I would recommend it to anyone with a new pet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea/Mediocre Execution, September 10, 2006

I have had this pet chime dog doorbell system for one year. The system I have worked great at its intended purpose. My dog was scratching to let us know when she wanted to go out and when we bought a new house I didn't want the new doorjambs to be covered in scratches. It took about two weeks to teach her to ring the bell consistently without first trying scratching. During this period I had some dog booties that she wore so that she wasn't scratching the wood during the training period. Training her to use it was not difficult. The product worked very well for the first eight months. I didn't have the problems with range from the receiver that some reviewers had with their units. Our receiver was about 15 feet from the furthest "paw" bell. At about eight months the outdoor receiver started to act up by getting stuck when the dog rings it and chiming over and over and sometimes being triggered by rain or wind and ringing repeatedly. Jiggling the paw stops it and it hasn't happened enough yet for us to trash it but seems to be getting worse. I am planning to order one of their replacement transmitter paws for about $12, not including shipping. I think we were fortunate that our unit worked as well as it did, given others comments it seems there is inconsistency in the quality of the product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time, December 26, 2007
Worked once from 1 foot away. Did not work from 15' away. Then stopped working altogether. Here's what I did:
(1) Returned it.
(2) Went to hardware store, got a wireless doorbell button and chime for half the price, which DID work from 15' away.
(3) Mounted button on back door, taped a paper plate over it.
(4) Now training pooch to just nudge the plate with her nose.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best tool for those without doggy doors, December 2, 2005
This is the best tool ever! It took my dog 20 minutes to learn what this was for (through clicker training). I've had mine for 4 years and it has been through much use! I'm looking for a replacement just in case mine ever breaks. I'm so glad I found it! I don't know what I would do without it! If taught in steps (again, through clicker training) it's very useful.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK not great, April 3, 2007

The paw works but the quality is very low. It is made out of cheap plastic and I found paper stuck inside. The bell rings randomly as others have noted. The random ringing happens if the button gets stuck down. It doesn't always pop back up after it is pushed. It isn't even water
resistent for those thinking of putting it outside.
The intercom part works fine and seems to be of decent quality. The barking option is just irritating though.

Before I bought this doorbell, my pet beagle had the awful habit of clawing at the outside door to get our attention. He practically ripped the door apart, so I looked for an alternative. I received my pet doorbell several weeks ago, and was thrilled with the idea that I didn't have to keep repairing the door. The product itself looks exactly the way it does in the picture, but I discovered problems with it right away. I first tried to ring the bell with it on the ground. It didn't ring. I thought it was broken, then I noticed it rang when it wasn't on the ground. So I tested it over and over again to figure out what angle it needed to be at to ring. Then I realized it also wouldn't ring if the receiver wasn't placed in the right spot (relative to the doorbell). I decided to attach it to the door with some nails, and discovered my dog could not press the button with the paw facing up on the door. So I turned the paw over (toes facing the ground), and it wouldn't ring. So I tilted it at an angle using 2 other nails. It seemed to work for a while, but it wasn't consistent. At this point, I really didn't want to return it because my dog had been using it diligently (and the door was no longer getting ripped apart), so I tried testing out the angles once again. I realized it worked if I let the battery hang outside of it's compartment - it seems ridiculous, but it worked (finally). So now it is on my door to the yard, upside down at an angle, held up by 4 nails, with the battery (and the wire) hanging out. Eh, oh well... at least everytime I hear the doorbell ring it makes me smile.

This pet chime was a good idea, but I am sending it back. Sometimes the chime won't ring and at other times it rings on its own and worst of all it starts ringing and won't stop. Clearly the manufacturer needs to work on quality control.
