Book Description

November 1, 2003
The puppyhood accident that gave Leo human speech also thrust him into a life of seesawing fear and jubilation. Confused by the more subtle actions of humans, not to mention the lies people tell, Leo worries that his supercanine abilities will lead to scientific research--on his poor brain.
Unsuccessful in his attempt to become a champion racer, Leo gets a second shot at fame when, in retirement, he is adopted by film star Douglas Drake and supermodel Amaranth Drueten. But the celebrity pair want Leo only for his fabulous looks, and he quickly learns that happiness comes from love--not posh digs and photo shoots.
Resolved to have a better life, Leo first surmounts the limitations of his canine anatomy--then races from whimpering cowardice to heroic courage. Along the way, he becomes an accidential matchmaker. And he finds that some people are just as honest and loyal as dogs.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Leo, A Greyhound's Tale, written by Cindy Victor, is a delightful...fantasy about a Greyhound who, through a puppyhood accident, is endowed with the ability to speak. After a brief racing career, Leo is adopted by a film star and his wife (a model)--and that's where the adventure really begins. . . . Says Lee Livingood, author of Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies: "Greyhound lovers rejoice. Grownups and children alike will fall in love with Leo. The only disappointment was that it ended too soon. I hope Leo returns with more stories to share." Greyhound Pets of America president Rory Goree calls it "a five-paw book! Once you start reading, you will not be able to put it down!" -- Review by Gary Guccione

Leo, who goes by an alias because he's worried that his supercanine abilities will lead to his being the subject of scientific research, was not the fastest hound at the track, sending him to an early retirement. . . . (When adopted by the) famous Hollywood couple Douglas Drake and Amaranth Drueten, . . . Leo realizes they are not looking for a loving companion, but an accessory for photo shoots. Initially, he is not disappointed with the prospect of a celebrity life spent on satin pillows, although both Douglas and Amaranth are shallow and uncaring. . . . While this book is a light-hearted, comical fictional account, it teaches us the truth that it is not material things but courage, loyalty, and love that make life worth living. . . . I hope Leo will return with more tales to tell. I will never look at (my greyhounds) quite the same, now that I've met Leo. -- Review by Alice O'Hearn

5.0 out of 5 stars Man's Best Friend, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Leo: A Greyhound's Tale (Paperback)
Leo: A Greyhound's Tale is just that - a tale about an exquisite dog's trials and tribulations with shallow and selfish man that culminates in Leo connecting with compassionate and loving man. This story is for those of you that love your dogs and imagine what they would say if they could speak. Leo: A Greyhound's Tale delivers in this aspect and much more.
It is a thrilling adventure story told from Leo's point of view that will enthrall and titillate readers of all ages. It will reinforce anyone's attitude that dogs need and love man like no other four-legged animal ever has or will. Leo: A Greyhound's Tale is storytelling at its best!

I could not put this very witty, heartwarming book down until I had read it from cover to cover!! The story of Leo and his search for a loving home is told with a very humorous, delightful twist...thanks to the writing style of this extremely talented author. Previously unfamiliar with greyhounds, I enjoyed getting to know the personality of this charming and appealing breed of dog. I truly hope more adventures of this enchanting dog will follow!

I loved this book so much, that I am doing a school report on the auther(Cindy Victor). The first time I read it I laughed, I cried, and even got to a point where I couldn't put it down. I would like to thank Mrs. Victor for bringing such a touching story into the world.
