I love this book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Leo the Lightning Bug (Hardcover)
"Leo the Lightning Bug" is a book that has a touching message that applies to each and every one of us. It is one of those rare children's books that imparts a feeling of self worth and courage. It is sensitive, funny, sad, and exciting - without a single unengaged moment. The illustrations are expressive and delightful. The enclosed CD is especially wonderful. The sound effects and music are beautifully incorporated into the story. The voices, including children's voices, make the story and its characters irrisistable. I love this book, and every child (or adult) to whom I have shown it, also loves it. I recommend "Leo the Lightning Bug" for everyone. It will be one book that you listen to over and over again and will want to keep for your grandchildren!

A totally charming book for young readers!,

This review is from: Leo the Lightning Bug (Hardcover)
This adorable book not only enraptured me but it also delighted my six-year-old daughter as well. She not only read the book herself, she also played the CD and read along with it.Leo is just an enchanting little character who endears himself to young and old readers alike. I know I was right in there pulling for him to finally learn how to light up the night. I commiserated with him when his friends teased him and was joyful when he finally practiced until he got it right! I highly recommend this enchanting book. It is the perfect book for parents and grandparents to read to their children and grandchildren. It is guaranteed to delight readers of all ages.

Enhanced with an accompanying audio CD,

Expertly illustrated by James Muscarello, Leo The Lightning Bug is a lavish color picturebook written by Eric Drachman and enhanced with an accompanying audio CD. The CD features the author narrating Leo's story, with five-year-old Benjamin Drachman as the voice of Leo. Sound effects and page turn prompts make the CD extremely easy to follow, and the delightful story of Leo's adventures makes for excellent reading just before bedtime. Leo The Lightening Bug is a welcome addition to family, school, and community library book/CD collections for young readers.

This is a very charming story that's sure to make you smile. The illustrations are warm and expressive, bringing out Leo's feelings and emotions on paper. Reading this story reminds you that we all have a little Leo inside of us at one time or another, unsure of himself and insecure. But he learns, as we all do, that each of blooms in our own time.

Our three-year-old son received this as a gift from Grandma and has been requesting it for reading sessions or listening to the CD version several times a day for the last week and a half. And amazingly, I am NOT sick of it yet.Very enjoyable encouraging story but not at all preachy. The CD story is one of the best quality pre-read stories I have heard. It has music, sound effects, and several different and very expressive voices participating. At the same time it is not over-the-top detracting from the story itself. My only critique is that on the CD the page turn signals are very subtle. But my son quickly memorized the book anyway and learned exactly when to turn the pages. Also, unlike some the books-on-tape there is no audio version without page turn signals. Both very minor issues. This is a great value for both a beautifully illustrated hardcover book and an audio CD. A great gift!

WONDERFULLY CHARMING,
By A Customer
This review is from: Leo the Lightning Bug (Hardcover)
This is a wonderfully charming story about a little lightning bug learning self-confidence and lighting himself up. Extraordinarily well-written and well-illustrated, the book is both deeply meaningful and lots of fun. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

Leo's story is perfect for preschoolers and up,
This review is from: Leo the Lightning Bug (Hardcover)
Having enjoyed Ellison the Elephant, I decided to get Leo the Lightning Bug for my 3.5 year-old. We love books that have accompanying audio CDs, and apart from John Lithgow's books for young children [Marsupial Sue, The Runaway Pancake, I'm a Manatee, I Got Two Dogs], Eric Drachman's works [with the book plus accompanying CD format] provides an enjoyable reading and listening experience.
In Leo the Lightning Bug, young Leo can't seem to light up and feels utterly dejected. His mom advises patience and practice, but Leo doesn't feel any better. Things are not helped when his friends make fun of his efforts and the poor little lightning bug flies off into a dark cave just as a thunderstorm strikes. How Leo eventually finds his confidence and 'inner light' makes for an enjoyable read. The accompanying audio CD not only has audible page turns [to make it easier for beginner readers to follow the story], but also has wonderful sound effects and authentic narration [the author's young nephew plays Leo]. All in all, this is a must-have for those who are looking for quality children's books for preschoolers and beginner readers.

Charming and delightful, Leo encourages self-confidence and perseverance while entertaining its audience. Children that don't usually enjoy books can play the CD, follow the pictures, and hear the story--good for those beginning to read and visually impaired. (Parents will enjoy it too.)

As a writer, I'm always looking for inspiration . . . and Eric Drachman's storywriting and James Muscarello's illustrations do just that!!! This book appeals to the imagination and senses of children while simultaneously conjuring up many vivid moments from childhood (for the adults reading along)! Leo the Lightning Bug is magically written with exciting "page turning" scenes and an underlying message that warms the heart. This book is a "must have" for every child's library collection!
