Book Description

January 23, 2008
Leonard Maltin s reputation as one of the world s most popular authorities on the history of film is well known. Equally well known is his affection for the classic era of the movies. In his quarterly subscription-only newsletter Leonard Maltin s Movie Crazy, Maltin through personal remembrances as well as first-hand interviews with the actors, writers, directors, and performers of the Golden Age chronicles the history of a bygone magical era.

Available here for the first time to the millions of viewers and readers who turn to Maltin year after year for his insights on movies and Hollywood is a collection of the best articles from his newsletter. It s all here: The imaginative schemes Hollywood dreamed up to "ballyhoo" its latest pictures...the skewed vision of silent movies that the film industry perpetrated on the public once talkies came along...the longtime marriage of music and movies...and the careers of Hollywood's unsung heroes, on both sides of the camera, who share amazing and amusing stories you've never read before.

Illustrated with rare photographs, one-sheet movie posters, advertising art, and personal memorabilia from the stars themselves, this book will capture the attention of old-time movie fans and casual readers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's Back, May 17, 2008

This review is from: Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy: For People Who Love Movies (Paperback)
Leonard Maltin inspired a good many people from my generation in the field of classic film. His books introduced me to so many people and things I'd not yet heard of, and his love for classic film jumped off of every page. Then he became a mainstream personality and some of us die-hards felt that we'd lost our champion. Well, hear ye, hear ye....Leonard is back with a book that will delight enthusiasts of all things "old movie". Here is a collection of articles which were originally featured in his quarterly publication of the same name. I had a difficult time putting the book down, and my only wish is that the next volume is even better. Thanks Leonard and welcome back to the fold (or should I say, old?).

4.0 out of 5 stars Usual Maltin quality, August 21, 2008
This review is from: Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy: For People Who Love Movies (Paperback)
Well done and informative. Truly for the movie buff, even if not a crazy one.
As usual, the true movie aficionado, Leonard Maltin does an interesting and fact filled job managing to insert those little nuggets of knowledge which make following movies and all their component parts such a fascinating pastime.

Maltin has found very interesting people for his book. They have great stories about film-making and persons working in them. If you love classic films, this is must for you. The book does not contain only interviews, but also good articles about film-making. I myself do not care about musicals at all, but for those who do this book contains much valuable information. I hope Maltin will put together an another great book.
