5.0 out of 5 stars Low Sodium, Full Flavor!
I bought these because I was impressed by their low sodium levels, but I expected that they'd need "doctoring" to be palatable. Wrong! These soups are all wonderful as packaged. They're a great staple to have on hand for a quick and easy meal, but they can also be thrown in a slow cooker to be ready when you come home.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not So Souper After All
For all the hype these Leonard Mountain dry soups have gotten, they sure did disappoint. I have made 6 varieties now (sitting here with a bowl of the Chicken Pasta as I type), and they were consistently bad...even though I followed the package directions EXACTLY. Maybe that was the problem - I followed the package directions. None were done in 20 minutes. ("edible" in 20...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these soups!, March 2, 2010

When I bought these soups initially (several months ago), I saw the one review. But what that reviewer said about not needing to doctor the soups up for them to be good, really struck a cord with me as that is what I have always needed to do with any soup mixes I had used prior. I also really liked that they only take 20 minutes to make. You can let them stew if you want, but 20 minutes makes a wonderful tasting soup. They have chunky vegis and are very flavorful. I totally love these soups. I have now bought them several times & when ordering again today I thought I needed to also review this great find. I have tried several soup mixes on amazon.com & the Leonard Mountain soups are my favorite by far! 5+ stars :)

("edible" in 20 minutes - yes; worth paying xx dollars for it - no; worth calling it "gourmet" - no.) And one reviewer called the veggies "chunky" - really? Wonder what kind of soup they're used to if they think these soups are chunky.

My advice: Lipton instant soup will give you just about the same salty, overseasoned experience as these Leonard Mountain mixes, but for a lot cheaper. Of course, Liption instant soup doesn't purport to call itself "gourmet" like LM does.

My real advice: Want a "real" soup that REALLY only takes 20 minutes? Throw some stock (canned broth will work too) in a pot and let it boil, then toss in some fresh veggies (frozen if you want), pre-cooked meat (or raw shrimp), pasta if you want it, canned beans if you want them, and cook until the veggies are the way you like them. Season to taste with just salt and pepper, or add garlic and/or onion powder. Green herbs are great too if you know how to use them.

If you're using a crockpot (which I do all the time), do the same thing except wait until the last 30 minutes to toss in the pre-cooked meat. You could also get away with dried beans in a crockpot.

In any case, fresh soup only takes 20 minutes to begin with, so these LM soups aren't saving anyone any time.

I will NEVER buy these again. EVER. If I need convenience, I'd rather buy canned soup than these.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst!, October 27, 2011

Do not buy this soup! I bought their lentil and vegetable at a county fair. Bad decision! The "vegetable" contains nothing but desiccated potatoes - no other vegetables! The lentil taste is horrible. The soup is expensive so money wasted. I complained to this company and they could care less.

Every one of these soups was delicious! I found them to be very versatile, as well. I added ingredients here or there--whatever I happened to have in the cupboard/freezer, like black beans, green chilies, chicken breast, etc.--and these soups really impressed. I was particularly excited about the low sodium and low calories in the soups. I'm on a low fat/low calorie diet, and these worked out tremendously well for me. I'm definitely going to buy these again!

Great product, tastes great and you can add veggies ano/or meat to expand it to serve more people, or freeze for another day. Really good!

These mixes make great soups. I just add a little meat and water to a crockpot and I have lunch for a week. The soups are tasty and not high in sodium like other soup mixes.

5.0 out of 5 stars leonard mountain soup, January 2, 2012
This review is from: Leonard Mountain 5 Soup Sampler Dry Soup Mix (Grocery)
this is the best soup I have had. I bought it at Ross's on a whim. My sister said it is good luck to eat lentil for New Year. I bought some cubed meat added some onion and simmered. people who were at the housed ALL raved about this soup. I am going to try the other versions (im sitting here eating the last bit of the soup)
I did cook it at lot longer since I had meat in it. Plus the barley does take longer to cook. but I think that is what made it taste even better

I bought a package of dos Amigos Green Chili Stew at Ross. It cost me $2.99 and i gotta say that i got a bargain and a half on that one. Not only was the soup delicious but i found it online. i just ordered up a bunch of their soups and i cant wait to try them and some of the other foods they produce.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 12, 2011

They look really awesome, but are hugely disappointing! The ingredients are great and the flavor is decent, but the texture always comes out poorly; and I followed all the instructions. As a result I've only tried two out of like 6... Doesn't get my personal recommendation. Unless of course you're giving this to someone as a gift that you never see :)

Basically, it's too starchy and the pasta/freeze-dried ingredients never fully cook before it turns into a kind of 'gel'.
