Book Description

The Santinis
Four brothers who believe in service before self and the women who will bring them to their knees.

Joint Base San Antonio, TX
Sensual Romance

Leo Santini is a man who always has a plan. It is the way to live a well-ordered life. He never planned on dealing with the hardheaded physical therapist who is taking care of his friend. He definitely never planned on being so totally infatuated with her.

Maryanne Johnson doesn't have time for a romance--especially with a military man. Sure, Leo is drop dead sexy, but more than one man in a uniform had hurt her before. Unfortunately, she can't seem to resist him or his kisses. It doesn't help that the man is as sweet as he is sexy. Falling for him is easy, but she does her best to keep herself from admitting it to him.

Leo knows she wants to keep things simple but when a Santini is in love nothing will stop him from achieving his goal--even the hardheaded woman he loves.

Editorial Reviews

Leonardo was the perfect escape...
Vanessa, Jeep Diva Reviews

The interaction between Leo and Maryanne is sweet and hot and sexy at the same time. Leo is like water dripping on a stone and he worms his way into Maryanne's heart before she even realizes what is happening. She loves that he sees her for who she is and also that he takes the time to really get to know her. Add to this the fact that the sex is super hot with beautiful sensual fireworks explosions...
Sabine, Manic Readers

I loved the writing style, the author's voice along with the great cast of characters. Leonardo was a great read & I enjoyed every minute of it. I definitely cannot wait for the rest of the series. I want more of these delicious Santini men!
Nina's Literary Escape

From the Author

I was born in an Army hospital. I always joke that I was government issued and I know a lot of other brats feel this way. Our lives are not our own but we belong to a huge family, filled with so many different people from various backgrounds that it is quite unique. There is a reason I have found so many military brats-as many of us like to be called- to be some of the most adaptable folks I have met. Still it wasn't something I thought I would do to my own kids. It isn't an easy life. But when my husband Les and I decided that it was best for him to enter the Air Force almost 20 years ago. This coming September, we will come to the end of his active duty military career. To pay homage, I decided to write a series of novellas about a group of extraordinary brothers who all serve in the military. Each book is set in a location we lived for a time.
Leonardo is in San Antonio. We moved there after Hawaii and it was our longest assignment. We lived on base for part of our time there in a house built in 1933 that harbored at least one ghost. We had a rocky time while living in San Antonio but there were good things about living there. We were close to family and back in the land of Tex-Mex. I was living there when my first book, Grace Under Pressure, was released by Liquid Silver Books. I always see our assignment at Randolph AFB (now Joint Base San Antonio) as a transition base. Three of my favorite eating establishments are mentioned in the book: Whataburger, Rudy's, and Alamo Café.
I hope you enjoy Leo and Maryanne's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it. April 26, 2013

Leonardo is the first brother we meet in Melissa Schroeder's new military romance series, the Santini's. In this new series, she is introducing us to four brothers, the Santinis, that serve our county. Well, if Leo's story is any indication to this series, sign me up. I am hooked.

Leo is a medic in the army, stationed in San Antonio, Texas. While visiting a friend in the hospital, he meets Maryanne. Instant chemistry. I loved Leo's personality, this is the kind of guy every girl dreams of meeting. Maryanne is just spunky and holds her own to Leo. Her strong female characteristics make her funny and loveable, I found myself cheering this relationship on.

The story is a novella, and yes, I wanted more to this story but I still fell in love with Leo and Maryanne. They had instant chemistry on the page and their story was perfect!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love a Man in a Uniform! April 27, 2013
By Nina
Format:Kindle Edition
I love reading novellas and when an author can deliver a whole story within less than 100 pages, then that makes me a very happy reader. Melissa Schroeder definitely did that with this story. Despite its shortness , the author delivered a fulfilling story with Leonardo and I couldn't be more of a satisfied reader. This novella was loaded with lots of fun dialogue, humor, sexiness and plenty of charming characters.

I think what won me over with this story was the characters. Leonardo was just the *sweetest* guy ever. Like seriously. Oh yes, & very sexy too!

"As if conjured out of her thoughts, she saw Leo walking down the hallway. She couldn't fight the little sigh that slipped from her lips. There was nothing like seeing a military man, dressed in his uniform, striding down the hall like he owned the place. Just seeing him made her heart do a little tap dance."

I also loved how he romanced Maryanne in the story and his sweet ways with her. In addition, I loved Maryanne. She had sass and was a feisty heroine. I really adored her character and liked the fact that she didn't constantly push Leo away even when she had reservations about getting involved with him. Their chemistry was nicely written and it there was plenty of sizzle between these two.

I loved the writing style, the author's voice along with the great cast of characters. Leonardo was a great read & I enjoyed every minute of it. I definitely cannot wait for the rest of the series. I want more of these delicious Santini men!

**Favorite Quote**

"Good lord I don't know why I like you."
He gave her that lopsided smile that always gave her a jolt.
"But you do. A lot."
She swallowed, trying to remember to keep it light.
"I'm not so sure now."
"Really? Because you screamed my name enough times to make me think it had something to do with liking me."

4.0 out of 5 stars Series opener June 17, 2014
By Karli

While I have read this book before, it is equally good the second time around. Medic Leo Santini is visiting his best friend in the San Antonio military hospital when the physical therapist, known for being a tyrant, walks in the room. Leo has heard alot about her, but she is much younger, and prettier, than he expected. Like Leo, MJ is a military brat and she has given up on relationships with men in the service, but Leo sees beyond her tough exterior to the woman inside. And Leo always goes after what he wants. This is a good standalone as well as an entertaining series opener.

3.0 out of 5 stars Typical Romance September 2, 2013
By Rinda
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I chose this book because I thought it was IR(bw/wm) but as I began to read and it describes the characters, they only mentions that she part Italian and that's it, so I felt that she's Caucasian, and this is not an IR romance, because both characters are the same race.

I love all kinds of romance, in particular military stories. If they feature gorgeous hunks who have special skill sets and lots of brothers - in arms or blood, well that makes it so much better! Add a strong determined female lead and some conflict or issues and fireworks galore - both in and out of the bedroom and you definitely have a recipe for a great read!

Leonardo is the first book in a new series, The Santinis by Melissa Schroeder who is already well known for her Harmless and Harmless Military series among many others. I was provided with the ARC of Leonardo for a frank and honest review, so here goes. The cover of Leonardo is so sinfully sexy and drool worthy. That alone is enough to make you want to pick up the book. When you do start to read, it isn't like Melissa's other military stories, but boy it is still hot and sexy and a great read.

In Leonardo, we meet the first of the Santini brothers, Leo. He runs into Maryanne Johnson when he goes to visit his friend who is recovering in hospital and undergoing rehab. The dragon in charge of Jeff's rehab is Maryanne and when Leo first sets eyes on her, he is floored. She isn't the dragon he pictured, rather she is quite the opposite and he recognizes that her bark is much worse than her bite.

Add a few hilarious run ins and misunderstandings, where Maryanne manages to get the upper hand and the cool and usually unflappable Leo Santini is rather at a loss. I enjoyed the fact that Leo was floored by a scrap of a female, but he didn't let that get him down. The Santinis and the Johnsons are both military families and this is what has forged all of them and helped them become who they are and also influenced how they behave and for some it has caused some issues. Leo and Maryanne are no different.

Want to know more about your favorite military family? Join Mel on her blog every Sunday for Santini Sundays!

Born to an Air Force family at an Army hospital, USA TODAY Bestselling author Melissa Schroeder has always been a little bit screwy. She was further warped by her years of watching Monty Python and her strange family. Her love of romance novels developed after accidentally picking up a Linda Howard book. From then on, she was hooked. She read close to 300 novels in one year and decided romance was her true calling instead of the literary short stories and suspense stories she had been writing. After many attempts, she realized that romantic comedy, or at least romance with a comedic edge, was where she was destined to be.

Influences in her writing come from Nora Roberts, Jenny Crusie, Susan Andersen, Amanda Quick, Jayne Anne Krentz, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, and Lori Foster. Since her first release in 2004, Melissa has written close to thirty short stories, novellas and novels released with seven different publishers in a variety of genres and time periods. Those releases included a 2005 Eppie Finalist, Two Capa finalists, and an International ebook best seller in June of 2005. Surrender was named top Category Romance by Authors After Dark, and she was named Author of the Year and Most Accessible Author.

Since she was a military brat, she vowed never to marry military. Alas, fate always has her way with mortals. Her husband is an Air Force major, and together they have their own military brats, two girls, and an adopted dog-daughter. They live wherever the military sticks them, which, she is sure, will always involve heat and bugs only seen on the Animal Discovery Channel. In her spare time, she reads, complains about bugs, travels, cooks, reads some more, watches her DVD collections of Arrested Development and Seinfeld, and tries to convince her family that she truly is a delicate genius. She has yet to achieve her last goal.

She has always believed that romance and humor go hand in hand. Love can conquer all and as Mark Twain said, "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." Combining the two, she hopes she gives her readers a thrilling love story, filled with chuckles along the way, and a happily ever after.
