In this unusual book, well-known artbook author Theran (e.g., The Official Price Guide to Fine Art) gives the auction prices for Latin American art over the last 30-plus years in more than 20,000 sales results. Auction prices come from the publisher's database, which is compiled from auction catalogs, mostly representing the major sales at the prominent North American and European venues. A few very important artists, e.g., Frida Kahlo, Rufio Tamayo, and Wifred Lam, are tracked to show the amazing growth of interest in Latin American art. In addition, a section on how to use the book explains how auction prices relate to the value of the artist's work. Biographies of 1,131 artists, some never before discussed in English, are also included, along with a consideration of the Latin American art market and Latin American art styles and 87 black-and-white illustrations. Much more than an historical auction catalog, this is recommended for large public libraries, academic libraries, and specialized collections in art or Latin American studies.
