This review is from: Leontyne Price, Marilyn Horne: In Concert At the Met (The Met Opera Orchestra, Dir. James Levine) (Vinyl)
Marilyn Horne and Leontyne Price are in top form for this concert under Levine. The concert starts with Handel and Mozart, moving on to Puccini and Verdi, a potted concert of the history of bel canto. Horne flies brilliantly through "Vivi tiranno" from Handel's Rodelinda and you could hear a pin drop as they waft through the airy Cosi duet. In the encores, Leontyne Price unleashes her might in a too easy "O mio babbino caro" and brings the house down with "Pace, pace", holding the last note at fortissimo until it seems she collapses. The audience goes wild. A two cd concert that makes you wish you'd been there. Robert Woodley Sydney, Australia |
