I thought this book would be bigger, but its rather small. Its small enough to be very handy whenever you need it, for example, you can store it in your purse and carry it around. I bought it to match my purse, which it does! I just wished it was a little bigger.

Colors not true.,

This review is from: Leopard Journal (Notebook, Diary) (Pocket Journals) (Paperback)
I was swayed into buying 3 different styles of this journal by Amazon's 4-for-3 promo (where you buy 4 items, but are only charged for 3), but I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money. These journals are cheap (about five dollars each, at this writing) because they look cheap. The covers are made out of a thick, waxy-feeling board book material which makes you feel as if you're handling a toddler's book instead of a journal. By contrast, the edges of the cover are dry and unwaxed, so it scrapes unpleasantly across your hand every time you need to open the book or adjust a page. The inside pages are adequate, slightly thicker than Moleskine paper (about 2 times as thick), but not as smooth. If you prefer your paper with a bit of tooth, you might like that. Sadly, the extra thickness does not prevent pen bleed-through, which can be seen even if the page is flat and not being held up to light. The measurements are just shy of 4 inches wide by 5.75 inches tall; it can tuck into a pocket or purse, but the thick cardboard cover makes it heavier and bulkier than necessary. The colors of the 3 books I bought are not true to their small thumbnail pictures. The thumbnails look much lighter and nicer than the books actually are, so be sure to click the the larger close-up pics, if available. A rundown on the colors (use Wikipedia to see them for yourself): Funky Squares - Looks like the large version of the picture: drab olive green, light olive green, pale red-violet, and dark red-violet (Jazzberry Jam) on a black background. This color combination is particularly hideous. Give this book to someone you hate. Leopard - Does not look like the picture; it's actually much darker. The lighter color is ecru and the darker color is black, not brown as it appears. Nonetheless, this is the best of the bunch if you don't mind the faux leopard cover. Mod - I lost it and can't be bothered to find it, so I'm not able to give you specifics, but I do remember being disappointed. The colors seemed flat and wan. Not as ugly as Funky Squares, but not attractive either. I wouldn't buy any of these journals again or give them as a gifts. I realize this review is a bit hyper-critical, but I try to be thorough to save others the annoyance of buying an item that looks good in the picture, but doesn't live up to expectation. Also, part of the enjoyment of writing in a real journal -- as opposed to a digital one -- is the tactile experience of the book in your hand. This particular series of Peter Pauper Press journals are to be avoided, in my opinion, unless you don't care at all about the deficiencies I've outlined above and just want a cheap book. I plan to use mine for scrap paper and throw them away when finished.
