5.0 out of 5 stars Great first full-length from this great band., November 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Leper Ethics (Audio CD)
This record was my hands-down favorite from 1997. A very original take on the D.C. scene style of music, with a bit of N.Y. aggressivenes thrown in for good measure. The songs are strong and complicated ("Lasttime", "If I", "Self-Pity", "Backslide"), and rock with the intesity of a Foo Fighters meets Fugazi. The songs aren't all in your face. The band brings it down a few notches on a several occations on this release ("Loss of Hours", "No Promise", "Leper Ethics"), proving they are skilled at their trade and sure know how to write a song that will grab your brain and you heart. Lance Lammers (vocals) gets my vote for being able to portray the emotional conviction of the songs lyrics, while blending harmony and dissonance together to create a well rounded sound. The lyrics of this record will stab you in the gut, and make you wonder why you didn't buy this release earlier. Any fan of good indierock will love this release. The mainstream ear will also be able to grasp what is going on, and learn to love it more with every listen. Buy this record!
