This is a nice story of a simple man who helps out a leprechaun. In return, the leprechaun must thank the man. The man refuses the leprechaun's gold, but the leprechaun finds a way to give him something much more valuable - the gift of love. It is an endearing story for children ages 4 and up.

Heart warming story. Interesting watercolor illustrations that are different than most kids books (expand their horizons). My kids love finding that sneaky little leprachaun who is hiding on many of the pages. Also a good lesson about helping others.

Does the notorious St. Pat's day trickster always have to be a villain? This is an enduring tale where love triumphs over gold! The main character refuses to take the gold offered by a leprechaun for saving his life... but the tricky leprechaun presents gold in another format that is the best sort of treasure, a true companion! My 6 &8 year olds love the story, so you know it's not too mushy. Yet momma loves the message. I'm reading this one for Valentine's, too.
