With a style of music unlike any other genre currently available, Leroy steps upon the music scene and offers something to listeners that will either make or break his career in music; originality.

Each album track employs an electric guitar, and the unmistakable growl-whine of singer/songwriter Leroy, who's last name never appears within the liner notes of his self-titled album, Leroy. Drawing influences from the blues, funk, pop, rap and rock, each track offers a new twist to delivering well written lyrics.

"The Way We Carry On" begins with a distorted Hendrix-style guitar riff, and melts into a smooth rocker before later borrowing from hip-hop with a guest appearance by Damani Washington who adds a rap backing amongst a wailing blues guitar and various symphonic stringed instruments.

As difficult as it may be to pigeonhole acts like Leroy into a set musical genre, the variations between songs such as "Over You" and "Ricochet" make it near impossible. With an 1980's era musical sound, "Over You" differs greatly from the crunchy rock feel of "Ricochet."

While each song seems to have its own voice and styling, the reoccuring vocal whine of Leroy seems to bind each track together on the album. Each track is essentially different, and yet the same. Unlike any of the acts currently in the public eye, Leroy seems to make the transition from his inner person to his listeners by simply putting his music out in a risky take-it-or-leave-it attitude that tends to shape popular music. Although some tracks may be a bit difficult to really place in radio rotation, at least one or two of the 13 tracks should reach the public ear within the near future. Whether or not Leroy will be around in a year or two is unforeseen at this point, but having a diversely oriented musician writing his own music is always respected if not welcomed.

Leroy assures us with his lyrics, "Don't cast me astray/Cause all I'm gonna do is ricochet." Maybe as a message to listeners, he is in fact asking for his chance to truly become a new driving voice in music, stepping out of the shadows of the fallen acts before him.

The Bottom Line: Leroy simply refuses to be labeled into a musical grouping. While each track borrows upon the influences of various styles of music, they all seem to join together to create a new and unusual sound from a talented and almost mysterious musician.

This CD is very good, and thoroughly original. The music is very rich, and the guitar riffs remind me of the old school classic rock guitar. This sound is much different from the screaming noise that comes with so many of todays groups. Leroy offers something very unique. His lyrics are meaningful and understandable; his music will grab hold of you and make you listen if for no other reason than it's just plain good. If you like classic rock and modern alternative, give Leroy a try.

Leroy brings a new and origina sound to the music scene. His voice is vry distinct, but not in an annoying way, and he music is very good. I recommend this album to someone wh appreciates good music.

Overall fun, original and good CD. I like it but don't love it. I think it was worth the money though. I found out about this guy from the song that was on Scrubs. If you want to check out something a little different and like the clips of the songs, then i recommend you get the cd.

I am compelled to write a review about Leroy in part to help put my own finger on what is going on with this album. It is very difficult to define and that is why I find it so interesting. I hesitate to say anything negative because I really like what they are doing. Each song on the album is very listenable,enjoyable, and for the last few days, all I have listened to is this mixed with their album 'Squish.' They are both great in the background but also stand up to a good critical listening. Each song also has a hook that you swear is a variation on a theme you have heard before, but can't quite place. The song writing is very unique and the vocals are excellent. There are times that the vocals sound similar to Prince, but my favorite are the Dr. John like vocals. My guess is that Leroy is far from peaking and that we have a lot to look forward too. I also bet that they would be a fantastic live show and look forward to seeing them someday. I wholeheartedly recommend this band to the music obsessive as well as the casual listener. It will not be one of those albums you buy, listen to once or twice and forget. Leroy is interesting enough to keep around forever.

Original? don't know if I would say that, as I am old enough to have listened to bluesy funk when it came around the first time: J. Geils comes to mind. And you can't miss the similarities to LEnnie Kravits. But, as an old fart always looking for some new music WORTH listening to that won't force the teens to power up the windows in embarassment, this is a great album. Play it loud and "roll down" the windows!

Really. Leroy's music is infectious, catchy, and a great funk-based rock, similar to Better than Ezra or a mellowed-out Chili Peppers. I have fairly mainstream taste, but this CD by a relative unknown is in my top 5. Try it!

I heard Leroy's music on TV (Scrubs) and loved it, so I bought the Leroy CD. I love it - all the songs are cool, but "Away" is my favorite by far. I don't know why that other guy Zack was so negative (maybe it is because he can't spell). My cousin in Boston saw Leroy with Aerosmith and said he was great live. I dig this record - I'm glad I bought it.
