Book Description

BRUCE JONES became a household name as Coronation Street’s Les Battersby, one of the show's most popular characters. After more than ten years of on-screen loudness, occasional violence and a great deal of humour, he was unceremoniously dumped from the show. Now, for the first time, he reveals the truth about the newspaper 'stitch-up' that led to his dismissal from the show he loved.
But there is far more to Bruce Jones the actor. He won a European Actor of the Year Award for his first feature film Raining Stones in 1993; he starred alongside Bob Hoskins in TwentyFour Seven; he played a wonderful cameo role in The Full Monty; and was widely acclaimed for his lead role in Bob’s Weekend. In this, his story, he tells of how method acting has brought him much success, but also mental anguish.
Bruce’s personal life is a soap opera all of its own. He nearly died of rheumatic fever at 10 years of age; he found the mutilated corpse of one of the Yorkshire Ripper’s victims whilst in his 20s; and, in 2009, in a period of depression and vowing to end it all, he almost killed himself and his wife by grabbing the steering wheel of the car whilst she was driving.
But this is not a misery tale. Like his much-loved character, Les Battersby, Bruce is well used to picking himself up, dusting himself off and starting over. His upbeat approach to life is heart-warming and, as you would expect from such an outspoken personality, his book is filled with outrageous stories and laugh-outloud moments as he gives us a peek behind the cameras into Coronation Street, Wife-Swap, Celebrity Come Dine With Me and other TV shows.
The dark days and the good times, Bruce Jones reveals all - and it's a roller-coaster story.
