The original cast!

I bought this with the high hopes of erasing the soundtrack from the recent movie from my head and this did the trick.
Jennifer Mossholder
This selection has all the most well-loved songs from the musical sung by (in my opinion) the best vocalists.

No one beats the original cast of this production. Another review rates this low because it is not Susan Boyle singing. Well, in this recording, "I Dreamed a Dream" is performed by Patti Lupone, the creator of the role of Fantine. Susan Boyle doesn't even come close to Ms. Lupone's technical expertise and depth of emotion. She truly has no equal. All the songs here are great. My only regret is that I didn't purchase the full version. Didn't realize this was just highlights until I had already downloaded it.

When considering the first music to install on my new iPod, I chose the original London cast recording of Les Miz and I will never be disappointed. From the classic melodies and heartfelt lyrics to the stunning vocal work, I do not think there is another album that could compare! I love it.

Love this. I never get tired of listening to this music. Interesting to hear how it was done on stage then compared to how it was done in the latest film version. I actually like some of the film version better!

You cannot beat the price for this album, over an hr of fantastic songs for a price cheaper than downloading a 1/3 of them.

Not all of the songs, but most of the classics are in this CD making it a great choice. If you like Les Misérables and need something to listen to in the car, this is the one for you.

Frances Ruffelle may have been the original Eponine, but her nasally whine will make you want to mute her every time she opens her mouth. However, the rest of the cast is stellar, and the orchestration so much more epic than any other recording. This Marius (Michael Ball) in particular has a great naive, youthful voice, as opposed to some of the other Marius-es who sound too mature. I ended up deleting the songs which featured Frances Ruffelle (One Day More, Love Montage, On My Own, A Little Fall of Rain) and replacing them with the versions from the 10th Anniversary live recording where Lea Salonga played Eponine. The applause after each song is a little annoying, and the rest of the cast isn't as good, but it's so worth it to hear Lea's amazing voice. Her rendition of "A Little Fall of Rain" will bring you to tears. And this album is cheap enough that I didn't feel like I wasted my money on the songs I replaced--all together it added up to about the usual price of an album.

I apparently was unable to read that word in the title and was subsequently disappointed when I noticed the missing songs and other bits on this "soundtrack." Buyer...not beware, just pay attention.
