Not everyone gets Mogwai, but that’s what makes them great. Theirs is a majestic, powerful sound where barely a word is spoken yet it is the antithesis of background music. Album and song titles bemuse, confuse and delight in equal measure and live, they are utterly unstoppable.

For their seventh album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will they have continued in this vein with a ... Read more in Amazon's Mogwai Store

This album is definitely more atmospheric than most other Mogwai albums I've heard. It still has an intensity, but not as much of the contrasting dynamics that they usually bring. This one never really rocks out. It meanders a bit, but that seems reasonable given the source material (which I've never seen). Overall, it's enjoyable and I'm happy with the purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Darkly atmospheric cinema soundscapes April 9, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
The 11th album from the Glasgow, Scotland band, written for a French TV series (The Returned).
Darkly atmospheric cinema soundscapes that are imbued with a subtly worrisome sense of calm
& beauty; as though the sun has risen on another day, but there's a chance it could explode at
any moment. Nonetheless, there is no escaping the gently dreamy roar of flowing power here.
Meditative music for willing explorers. Nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars More reflective. April 3, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I must admit I'm a Mogwai fan. Having every cd that I have had a chance to get my hands on. I believe that this group is the most daring and inovating band on the current scene. That being said I also believe that Les Revenants is softer and more delightful than any of the preivous cd's put out by these young Scots. It starts slowly and picks up a nice pace midway through the recording without being morose or dark. With only one cut set to lyrics (What are they doing in heaven today?) a very Pink Floyd sounding cut, the rest of the cuts take you on a dream like journey through the final notes. Mogwai has created music on this cd wich will slow your world down and make you realize that even contemporary atrists do not need words to relate their feelings to their audience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Listen January 6, 2014

I want to start by saying that I absolutely loved the show that this soundtrack was written for, it's a masterpiece. secondly, the music really struck me while watching the show. It's just really lovely with a touch of sadness. What is music if it doesn't invoke some sort of emotion? Great soundtrack!

5.0 out of 5 stars Be quiet and be patient! (Sensitive and Conscious) September 24, 2014
By Traxler
Format:Audio CD
I've read a few prominent bad reviews of this album. And I'm not sure why? As in, I can't figure out why any warm blooded true fan of the group could find anything to hate on this album at all??!! I think this was a necessary step the band had to make, sooner or later, and for me it couldn't be soon enough. I haven't heard a record this satisfying since The Hawk Is Howling. I assume the negative reviews are coming from Mogwai fans who listen to, or cut their teeth on the older edgier building crescendo stuff, which is fine. That's still present on this ablum, only softer and quieter, and some of the crescendos bud and build and break open into whole new blooming worlds! But It's really really hard for me to believe that any dedicated Mogwai fan with only a small majority of their back catalog could find this... THIS ALBUM!!!, This absolutely beautiful well arranged extremely memorable music filled gem of an album so distasteful as to give it a negative review!! That is beyond me. This IS a Mogwai album. And it IS a GREAT Mogwai album. This is the sound of Mogwai progressing, or the culmination of everything they did well in the past. This is Mogwai at their best, and freshest! And for all the negative Nellies who have to have their emo rock building crescendos 24-7 only...Do you really think Mogwai is never going to put out another rock song?
Do the reading world a favor, when it finally dawns on you and you wake up and realize this is not such a bad record, don't forget to go back and edit, or better yet, delete your premature reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars Partially wonderful... January 14, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I am now a fan of Mogwai, as I am a fan of Les Revenants. The CD has maybe 80% music that creates the downbeat, introspective, darkly contemplative mood I so love, but the remaining music turns "electric" and, to me, irritating which corrupts the pleasure of the rest of it.
