5.0 out of 5 stars It's All Here!
The Lesbian Sex Book is a user-friendly compendium on lesbian life, cleverly arranged from A to Z - making it easy to find your topic. Entries are chock full of social history ("Years ago, lesbians wore pinky rings to let other lesbians know who they were..."); anatomy ("the clitoris is all the structures that function together to produce orgasm.");...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Simplistic
This book was very disappointing. I found it to be very simplistic and dull. It only covers the basics. This would be a good guide for someone that has absolutly no idea what lesbianism is or how two women could be intimate. I feel as if the obvious was overstated and that readers would be better off looking else where if they are wanting a book with a little bit of...

Entries are chock full of social history ("Years ago, lesbians wore pinky rings to let other lesbians know who they were..."); anatomy ("the clitoris is all the structures that function together to produce orgasm."); "how-to" instructions ("Pinch her nipple gently, or roll it between your fingers, perhaps tugging slightly as you do so."); psychology ("Sometimes, loneliness feels like a fatal disease..."); advice ("Whether you're looking for Ms. Right or Ms. Tonight, remember that your self-worth is not dependent on someone else's "Yes."); serious stuff ("You may be with the same woman for twenty years, but you will still have fewer rights than a heterosexual couple married for one day."); anecdotes, quotes from other books, a resource and hotline list, and lots of humor ("Sex noises are great toys that you can play with at odd times.") !

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, well-written explanations, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lesbian Sex Book (Paperback)
This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the breadth of lesbian love-making. It is informative for the novice and a good overview for the so-called expert. As a lesbian on the outer edge of middle age, I found the information on various lesbian lifestyles of great interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friendly, accessible, informative, funny, August 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lesbian Sex Book (Paperback)
The Lesbian Sex Book is a nice starter book for the lesbian trying to get acclimated to the lesbian world. More than a sex primer, it also covers history and social issues. Occasionally kind of lame but often funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALL I REALLY NEED, October 14, 2003
By A Customer
So, yes, all I really needed to know about lesbian sex I have learned from this phenomenal book. In easy-to-read abecedarian (abc-order) format, it's comprehensible, clear, concise without omitting great details, and can be picked up and accessed by topic any time. The revisions are contemporary and and cool, helping the original writing to extend to queer girls of the younger generation. This is a reference book that I will keep on my shelf and will recommend to everyone I know, even to men who seem to be relatively clueless about sex between women. Keep this one in mind for the holidays, kids. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for anyone interested in the topic, June 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Lesbian Sex Book (Paperback)
I had resisted buying this book for some time because I felt that I was well acquainted with the subject matter already. I was, however, suprised at how much I learned from the Lesbian Sex Book. Every appropriate topic is covered in a concise, succinct manner and the writing is exceptionally clear and direct. I have recommended this book to my Lesbian friends and they have found it as useful and informative as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packs a lot of information in 321 pages, October 23, 2006
I bought this book because it was discussed as recommended reading by Tee A. Corinne in the anthology she edited `The Body of Love'.

This guide for all things sexually lesbian is very informational. Because it covers so many topics it should be used more as an in depth overview and not be considered a step by step manual to sexual practices (although many topics covered are very detailed and extremely informative).

Excellent Illustrations and photographs through out the book

Helpful are six pages at the back of the book listing videos, novels, fiction and non-fiction books, internet sites, magazines and organizations.

Mastectomy is a topic touched upon, a future edition including information on hysterectomies as they relate to sex would be an excellent topic for an in-depth entry.

From the back of the book - A best-seller for more than a decade. Alphabetical entries tell you everything you want and need to know about sex between women, whether you're simply curious about what they do in bed or want to explore the finer points of achieving ecstasy with your lover. Whether the topic is sex practices, gender politics, relationship building, polyamory, edible body oils, or strap-on toys, this is the source for both the sexuality adventurous and the erotic novice. More than just a sex manual, however, this updated edition offers forthright, witty, and essential information about relationships, health concern, and legal and psychological issues that share the lesbian experience.

Publisher's Note - An illustrated guide to lesbian sex deals with such practices as cunnilingus, masturbation, and penetration, as well as intimacy, nonmonogamy, health, and political correctness

3.0 out of 5 stars I've read better, September 24, 2007
By
This book is a great overview. It's abc-organization is strange, but it works. I knew more about lesbian sex as a teen than I learned from this book. There's no new info in it. There are definitely better books out there. For detail, instruction, humor, and straight-forward girl-on-girl talk, buy "The Whole Lesbian Sex Book" instead. If you like things a little naughtier, get the "On Our Backs Guide to Sex". Have fun!!!
