I bought the first copy as a gift. I have not purchased a new cookbook for myself in years, as I have dozens and dozens. I did not think there was anything new under the sun for me in the world of cookbooks - WRONG!
I have enjoyed the Macrina bakery since it opened, and Leslie's cookbook faithfully includes all the best of her breads, sweets, and savories.
The recipes are soooooooooo straightforward, simple, yet are unique combinations of everyday ingredients. So, I purchased two more - yep, one for me and one more gift.

i saw this bakery on a food network special. the cakes and breads looked so good i had to buy it. i've made a couple of things out of the book. they turned out exceptional. i still get requests for the cake i made out of it two years ago. the thing is, for me the amateur baker, the recipes were kinda intricate and hard to follow/understand. it can be done. but with some work and concentration--no kid interruptions that's for sure.

I LOVE Macrina, but the cookbook has several significant errors in the recipes that I have found. Be careful, if something seems "off" in one of the recipes, it probably is.

I bought this wanting to get my hands a little dirty, for the first time, baking from scratch. Not only do I now create goods that can never seem to stay on the cooking rack for more than five seconds, I've also learned a lot of basic baking techniques. Yes, some techniques are slightly harder than others, & some require additional tools, but if you're game this book is a must have. I know I was, shortly after I got this in the mail I bought my first (Kitchen Aid) stand-up mixer & haven't looked back since. Now, maybe one of these days I'll be able to actually taste one of my creations before I get bum-rushed in the kitchen. Another plus? The simple fruit muffins in this book will turn even the sourest neighbors into friends.

The recipes are great, good tasting and easy to follow. The one thing I find is there tends to be a little too much salt in the recipes so I just cut down a little.

i purchased book and i was shocked to see that it did not have not even one coulered picture ,no pictures in coulers at all and the other pictures that it had were very small in black and white like those pictures you see in baking books from the 1970's and none for the finished product ,so if you are looking for a book where at least you want to see some pictures on how the finished product look well this is not the book for you , you will be very disapointed i guess the people behind this book wanted to go cheap and save as much money as possible , as for the recipes they are what you see in modern baking books minus the pictures nothing spectacular

This is not for the amateur. The text and the recipes are exceptional and appealing to those accustomed to quality and superb baking. But, when going to Seattle, ah, a must !

I would love to beable to share about this book. The truth is I ordered it from Amazon and they sent the wrong book. On the second try they sent a damaged book. My money was finially refunded after a month. They never even mentioned sending another book. After my trip to this bakery in Seattle,I still have no book. I will say that I have been to this bakery and it is wonderful. I am sure that the book is too!
I will also say that I have never had any problem with ordering from Amazon before. This makes me wonder what has happened to this company?
