Great Workout For Getting Started With Fitness,
By
This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
Leslie Sansone won herself a whole new audience with the Walk Away the Pounds DVDs. These workouts are a wonderful way to get fit for people of all ages and fitness levels. This DVD features the 1-mile walk and the 2-mile walk. This DVD is the perfect introduction to Leslie's walking workouts. The moves are very simple: The 1-mile walk runs 20 minutes. The 2-mile walk runs 31 minutes. If you're just getting started, these workouts will fit into anyone's schedule! Once you've mastered the basic steps, she helps to create more intensity by stepping out further, squatting into the moves, and using light weights. While she promotes the "Walk Away Weights" in the DVD, light hand weights (2 - 3 pounds) can be substituted, just be sure to watch your form. A helpful meter appears along the way, to show you just far you've walked. Leslie's warm demeanor and encouragement really keep you motivated to make it to that 1 mile or 2 mile marker. The other outstanding motivator in these workouts is her walking group: real people! Deb is in her 50's, Randy is an older man, a new mother, and women in their 20's and 30's round out the walkers. The workout can be customized to fit your lifestyle, and that is one of it's greatest features. When you're looking to work harder, squat down, push yourself, and use the weights. On days that you're just not feeling 100%, skip the weights and still get a great cardio workout. If you enjoy working out at home, this is a must-have workout. Thank you Leslie!

I have Fibromyalgia, and was looking for a low-impact exercise programme to follow that wouldn't require days to recover from. I've not really followed the 2-mile programme, but the 1-mile is short and relatively easy. There's not a ton of bouncing, unless you want to, and you can get as intense as you want. Also, those participating in the video demonstrate three different levels throughout, so you can follow which ever one is more comfortable. The set is also a great value, as you have two programmes for the cost of one.

PERFECT for Beginners,

This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
There are two complete workouts on this DVD. "Get Up and Get Started" is a one mile walk that lasts about twenty minutes. The moves are easy and fun to do and half way through the workout you can use optional weights for toning. The second workout is a two mile walk called "High Calorie Burn" which lasts approximately 30 minutes. This one is more intensive than the first and once again incorporates two pound optional hand weights. The great thing about both workouts is that they are not in the least bit difficult or intimidating for a beginner. Leslie is a very good instructor and makes the exercises easy to follow. My only complaint would have to be with the rather annoying comments made by the people exercising with her on the video. Other than that, Walk Away the Pounds is excellent, and you will see results.

This workout is not for your die-hard cardio buff. This DVD is for someone like me who could probably count on 2 hands how many times they exercised in their adult life. I was heavy and my health was quite poor. My cardiovascular health was especially bad.
I received this DVD in July of this year, and it has made such a difference. This first time I tried the 1-mile, I was so out of shape that I wasn't sure I would make it through the warm-up! However, Leslie is gentle and slowly works you towards more intensity throughout the workout. When the 1-mile walk was over, my joints felt loose, my muscles felt warm, and I enjoyed the stretching like it was a special treat - a reward for my hard work. Leslie's movements are simple - no knee-twisting movements involved. There's very little chance for injury. She adds upper-body movement for an increase in workout intensity. I have combined Leslie's workouts with the Weight Watchers program. The weeks that I do WATP at least 3 times I see a much faster weight loss. Over the last 3 months, I have lost 21 pounds and watched my blood pressure drop from 140/95 (on blood pressure medication!) to 105/70 (medication free!). She is a genuine person during the workout and very encouraging. I don't get bored doing this DVD. I know there are only 5 basic moves and some arm movements and she does a pretty good job of mixing it up. The basic moves are:walking in place, side steps, kicks, knee lifts, and kick-backs with variations on upper arm work too. During the 1-mile walk, she lets you know every time you've completed another 1/4 mile. On the 2-mile walk, she lets you know when you've completed every 1/2 mile which is very encouraging. This DVD in particular is great because it contains two workouts - the 1-mile walk and the 2-mile walk. 1 mile is a great place to start. 2 mile is quite a workout. When you get more fit, you can combine both workouts or add weights to the workout. She also shows you several levels of intensity so you can tailor it to your needs and maximize your calorie burn without injuring yourself. I think it's great bang for the buck because this workout DVD can follow you through several levels of fitness depending on how you want to mix and match the workouts and weights. It seems like only a short while ago when I didn't think I'd get through the 1-mile walk. Tonight I combined them into a 3-mile walk and I feel great! I am seeing hope for my life and my health. Through some hard work, I've been able to start shedding the weight and get healthier, and I think the motivation and exercise I get from this WATP DVD is making such a difference. I really, truly think there is a special place in Heaven for people like Leslie. I am so grateful for such a good program. It's really what I needed.

I DETEST exercise, but was grossly overweight and had to do something. (I also have a bad back and knees) Sounds hopeless, right? Well, not after using Leslie's tapes! Her tapes are easy to follow, easy on the joints, and VERY effective. Between Weight Watchers and using Leslie Sansone's tapes - I have lost 65 pounds in 8 months and feel WONDERFUL!I highly recommend this DVD for everyone! I currently own 3 of Leslie's tapes, and just ordered two more. I am an avid believer and fan! If I can do it, so can YOU!

A Workout for the Uncoordinated and Lazy!!,
By
This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
I recently checked this out at my local library, thinking it would be like all the other workout videos that I've tried since giving birth almost 2 years ago- too hard to follow, too complicated, too advanced, etc. But I still gave it a chance, because I figured, how hard can walking be? Living in New Orleans, I have two enemies- awesome food that's terrible for you, and a summer that lasts from April to October. And with an almost 2 yearold, I needed a workout that wouldn't give him the opportunity to crawl all over me- yoga was a disaster!!
Walk Away the Pounds is PERFECT! I can walk, and while I don't always match in sync with the people on the screen, I do feel that I'm getting a good workout! Plus, like others have said in reviews of other Leslie Sansone DVDs, she's so chatty and the people around her are REAL people, not other fitness instructors, so the workout goes by fast. I've tried other workouts that were for the uncoordinated, but I've never stuck with them like this one!! In addition, I feel refreshed and ready to tackle things when I get done, not tired and ready for a nap!!! This is definately a keeper!!

I was a 10K runner five years ago and then I just let myself go. I gainned almost 40 pounds and now get out of breath climbing the stairs at work.
Determined to get healthy again, I started walking at work (a mile a day) and ordered several exercise DVD's. Out of those, this one was the BEST for my current health level. It was easy to follow, not hard on any joints, and didn't have a lot of steps to learn. I was SHOCKED by how fast it got my heart-rate pumping and although I was drenched afterwards, I completed the first mile on my first day. This is nothing like the 15 minute mile long walk around your block!!! It will give you a real full body workout.

Fun and Do-Able and Highly Effective (specially for pregnant women!),
By PDT "Penster" (Burbank, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes (a form of diabetes some pregnant women acquire temporarily) and was told by my doctor that walking for 15-20 minutes after meals would greatly reduce my blood-sugar levels. Well, I found this out at the height of summer and going out to walk in 100+ degree weather was just impossible.
This video is not for the hard-core aerobicizer. It's more for people who have never done an aerobics class before or dread ever going to one due to a bad experience; like not being able to keep pace with the rest of the class, two left feet or performing with others. This video is ideal for me because almost all of the above applies to me, and any kind of exercise would be an improvement in general. What makes this better is that it increases heart rate, is not difficult to do, but significantly does improve your health. A friend of mine suggested this video, saying that very little space was required (you walk in place) and one of the demonstrators of Leslie showed the low-impact version of the exercises (perfect for me due to my pregnancy). After I cleared it with my doctor (if you're pregnant, you should too) I did the exercises and couldn't be more pleased with the results. Before this video and after meals, my blood sugar would be in the high 120s. When I started these simple but heart-rate rising exercises, my blood sugar levels plummeted to healthy high 80s or low 90s. Leslie's videos are straightforward and simple to do. All you need to know is how to walk - it's that easy. I've also noticed that I'm less winded in spite of my pregnancy and don't have many of the physical complaints of expectant moms in their 3rd trimester when it comes to energy, aches and pains. And in spite of pigging out, I've gained the ideal amount of weight during my pregnancy. Now while I don't attribute ALL that good news to the video, I'm sure it played a big part in it. I do this video in a tiny room, barefoot, in the comfort and privacy of my home without having to leave the house and walk under the hot sun. If a 8-month pregnant woman can do this video, enjoy it and benefit from it, so can you.

This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
And I'm a chunky dunk....at about 50lbs over my ideal weight, I was desperate for a work out that I could do with out feeling awkward, bulky, and un-coordinated! Leslie makes you feel like one of the work out gang....and makes you feel good for doing the work out! If you can walk, you can do this video. No excuses any more for this chubby gal, I'm out of bed and walking the pounds away 3-5 days a week!
This DVD is also fairly low impact....I have knee problems, and with a few modifications on a few of the kicks, I can exercise along with the gang in the DVD with no problems! I also like that her back up exercisers are new moms and older people too! Gives you more confidence and drive that if they can do it, so can you! Kudos Leslie and thank you for a practical work out!

This review is from: Leslie Sansone - Walk Away the Pounds (Get Up and Get Started 1 Mile / High Calorie Burn 2 Miles) (DVD)
This was my first introduction into the Walk Away the Pounds series. I'm not obese, but I am relatively out of shape and was looking for some way to exercise that would be fun and physically challenging without facing the usual problems of coordination with workout videos. Leslie's videos are perfect. This DVD includes 2 workouts, an 18 minute 1 Mile and 30 minute 2 Mile. All of her workouts include the basic steps:
-Walking -Side steps -Kicks -Knee lifts She also does kickbacks in the 30 minute which are one of my favorite moves. The moves are basic so you can focus on challenging yourself and getting your heart rate up. The music isn't always the best, and while some have complained of her chatter I was surprised to find I enjoy it. She will talk to you the whole workout and often the friendly group of ladies who she is walking with in this videos will chime in. I love the way it does make it seem like something familiar and pleasant, rather than a more intimidating video instructor screaming at you to work harder. While you are walking you will also see a little graphic occasionally appear at the bottom to tell you how far in the "miles" you have gone. I started with the one mile for several weeks and then moved on to the two mile. Both were challenging the first time through, and the two mile uses her walk away weights, which are 2 lb weighted balls. You can do the workouts without the weights just as easily, and I sometimes use my 3 lb hand weights instead. I would recommend this DVD as a great way to get started with Leslie Sansone's videos, increase your fitness, and have a pleasant but challenging workout that you can look forward to and not feel like an idiot doing. |
