A workout that's actually fun!,

This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I tried this workout for the first time today and absolutely love it. I've used Leslie's 2 mile video and wanted something new to add some variety to my exercise. However, I wasn't ready for a longer workout like the 3 mile. This workout is still only 30 minutes, but is a little more intense than her 2 mile walk with intervals of jogging. There are other fun moves as well that keep the workout interesting. As a lifelong couch potato I never imagined myself jogging, but it was easy interspersed with the walking. I've never really enjoyed exercise and I usually watch the clock to figure out when the workout's going to be over, but at the end of this one I was actually having so much fun I wished it would last a little longer. I highly recommend this DVD.

A great mid-intensity, mid-length workout appropriate for a wide range of exercisers,
This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I'm a regular exerciser, and I've always viewed Leslie Sansone as being more for beginners. I do have one of her other videos, WATP for Abs, 3 Miles, that I like to use when I want a longer, lower intensity, "no-brainer" workout, but I wasn't sure if Leslie could produce a shorter routine that would still provide the intensity I'd want. After reading so many great reviews of Walk and Jog, I decided to take a chance on it, and I'm so glad that I did!
Walk and Jog is basically an interval workout in which Leslie alternates segments of her traditional walking moves with gentle jogging. The workout begins with about a 6-minute warm-up which quickly got my heart rate into my target zone and kept it there. Leslie then introduces the intervals, first by upping the pace of the walk for 3 minutes, then by transitioning to 2 minutes of jogging. Again, it is a very light, fairly low-impact jog that you can easily tailor to your desired intensity level. During the jogging intervals, Leslie incorportates other moves such as front kicks, corner kicks, and leg swings (a pendulum move). There are a lot of kicks and knee lifts throughout the walking segments as well, which I really liked, as I these provide some extra core work. Also, Leslie increasingly adds arm movements to up the intensity. There are a total of 4 intervals, and then the workout ends with a 4-minute aerobic cool-down, bringing the total time in at just under 32 minutes. I found the intensity level of this workout to be exactly what I was looking for, as I stayed in my target heart rate zone virtually the entire time, including the warm-up and cool-down. The workout could be easily modified to suit your own personal intensity level--one of Leslie's four background exercisers keeps it low impact the entire time, but you could also add additional arm movements or even light weights if you were looking to up the intensity. Leslie says that the workout is equivalent of 2.5 miles, and the time really does fly by--I couldn't believe it when she said we were halfway through. Finally, not only was this workout effective, but it was fun too! I especially enjoyed the jogging variations, and since I don't like high-impact work, I loved that these segments were kept pretty soft and low (yet still intense!). I think this video would be suitable for a wide range of exercisers, and I highly recommend it.

Looking for the next step?,
This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I've been doing Leslie Sansone's walking videos for the past year, and have managed to lose over 20 pounds in the process. I started with the 2-mile strength walk and incorporated the Stretchie and 3 to 8 pound dumbbells, then progressed to the 3-mile and 4-mile walks. Looking for the next step in the walking challenge, I was excited to see Leslie's new Walk and Jog video, so I immediately ordered it. What a workout! It is just the extra push that I needed in the progression of my exercise program. Whether you have a lot of room or a smaller space in which to exercise, this program offers that extra challenge to intermediate exercisers looking to progress to the advanced level.

A step up for beginners,
This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I have a couple of Leslie's WATP DVDs and like them, but the shorter walks were too easy and the longer walks took too much time. This DVD is the perfect alternative--it lasts only 30 minutes, but you do the equaivalent of two and half miles. Even Leslie sweats--and talks about it at some length :).
PROS: *The workout is fun! Nothing lasts long enough to be painful or boring and all the moves are very easy to do. *Leslie isn't hawking anything for a change--no weighted balls, no belt, nothing. You don't need anything but space for this workout. *Leslie makes a couple of minor cueing errors, but she catches herself quickly before you get confused. I don't think I've ever had a misstep following this one. *Leslie assumes that this DVD is a step up for the viewer and constantly encourages you to take things down a notch if you feel like it. It's nice to be told it's okay to slow down and here's what to do if you can't keep up but can keep going. *The set is nice, although a little odd--as someone else said, it looks like it is supposed to be a courtyard or walled garden. Leslie and the others are dressed in the sort of workout clothes people wear to gyms, and there are, as always in her videos, a variety of body types. No one looks intimidating. They are a quiet group, but they look like they are enjoying themselves--and they look sweaty and out of breath at points, too, which is always nice to see. CONS: *The stretch after the cooldown is really inadequate. Two overhead stretches do not a good stretch make. *A music-only option would be nice. For now, I like Leslie's babble, but I think I will get really tired of being told over and over that I can take it down a notch if I want to once I've done this DVD a few more times and have the routine down. *This DVD seems like a really rushed production. Leslie seems a little off in her patter and the DVD ends very abruptly. There is no mile meter on this one so you can watch your progress as there is on some of her WATP workouts. It's not a serious issue, but it does seem like they sort of threw this one together without a whole lot of time or production planning. It's still a good investment for the beginner who wants to step up the workout without falling all over the place or passing out halfway through :).

Great Workout,
This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I've been using her WATP 1, 2, and 3 mile DVDs and really liked those so I thought I would give this a try. I really hate aerobics, but this DVD goes so fast that it's over before I've had a chance to get bored. It's 30 minutes, but it is a fast 30 minutes. It's a very good workout, but the choreography is a little more complicated than her other DVDs, at least for me. I'm a terrible klutz. The set is weird (it looks like an Italian villa courtyard), and her cast members are very quiet which makes them a little boring compared to her other DVDs. Anyone who doesn't like Leslie's chattiness will be happier with this DVD, but I find I misss it a bit. But overall it's a great workout and a good addition to a fitness library.

I have been doing Leslie's walking videos for months now and they have really helped me to slim down and get fit. I think it is mostly because the moves are so simple, and although her voice can be annoying she is really motivating.
Things I Liked- This video bumps up the intensity from her just walking videos by interspersing 2 minute periods of light jogging with walking. The light jogging movements include low quick kicks, a pendulum move and of course, jogging. The walking portions entailed knee lifts, kicks, marching and side steps. The time just seems to fly by when you are doing this DVD. Also she does not talk as much to the other people as she does in other videos (I often found the cheesy conversations annoying.) Addtionally, if you are not ready to do the jogging segments, there is a woman who demonstrates a low impact modified version throughout. Things I Did Not Like- I wish it could have been longer. Maybe she will make a longer one in the future. This workout clocks in about 2.5 miles in 30 minutes, and I usually like to do a longer workout. Overall, this is an excellent buy and a great addition to your exercise DVD collection.

Power Series,

This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog (DVD)
I hesitated in buying this DVD. I don't run, jog, or do high impact workouts. I figured I'd just walk during the jogging periods. I was looking for a little more challenge during Leslie's workouts.
This one is great! It really gets the heart rate up, but isn't too high impact. The way she transitions from walking to the "jogging" intervals is very smooth, and her version of jogging is rather low impact. The music is good, I guess - it's not memorable!? The setup of the DVD is like the tape, but there isn't much need to jump around on the DVD - it is a 30 minute workout from start to finish. One thing I didn't like about the DVD is the lack of a stretch. I think if any of the tapes/dvds need stretching, this one qualifies! I went ahead and did the normal calf/hamstring stretch that she usually does on the DVDs. I really like all of the Power Series and wish they were a little longer in length. They provide a little bit of change to the regular WATP tapes.

I have been using Leslie's in home walking programs for almost 4 years now. I love the way we work out. I was in a bad accident and she makes the work out safe to do from your own home. It relieves my pain and makes me lose weight and feel great at the same time! This dvd goes by so fast and gives you a quick burn so you can go on with the rest of your life and enjoy the day with more energy than you could ever imagine! :)

Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds-Walk & Jog,

This review is from: Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds - Walk and Jog [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have several Leslie Sansone tapes and I use them on the average of 6 days a week. The Walk & Jog tape is great, because it gives me one more alternative to keep my workouts interesting. I enjoy the pace of the tape and the idea that I can do it high impact (jog) or low impact. She gives you that option as one of the group does the low impact. As all her other tapes that I own, this one is great!

Great Workout Booster,

2.5 miles in 30 minutes? Fantastic. The energy level is high and the enthusiasm is infectious. Leslie's "Sister in Sweat," Mary Kay, is there modifying for those who want more of a low-intensity workout (compensating by lower intensity in her steps and higher intensity in the kicks...some of the other reviewers need to really watch the routine and listen to what she's saying). The jogging and front/side kicks are metabolism boosters without causing this reviewer any pain. but your mileage may vary. Really good workout for those who want to graduate from a stroll in the park. Leslie workout "patter" is less intrusive than in other workouts.
