4.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
I purchased this product despite some less than stellar reviews by others and am happy with it. Installation on my old Craftsman couldn't have been simpler and took all of 15 minutes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice try, but I'll pass
I have a Craftsman "Limited Edition" saw (they only made 50 million units) which like the inexpensive Delta saws have plenty of gaps between the saw top and the saw body, that may need plugging so that a bag like this will work better. You'll also have to plug the slots made for the blade tilt. If you do all that, you may expose the saw to more dust and heat may build...

Does it completely eliminate all the dust? No, only about 90 percent of it. I figure that for a passive system, that only costs [some money], what more can you ask for? And, realistically, just what percentage of dust do those [expensive] systems catch? I doubt it's 100 percent anyway. If you're looking for an inexpensive solution to a portion of your shop dust problem, this is a good starting place.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive Dust reduction for a table saw, November 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Less-Mess DC001 Dust Collector Bag (Tools & Home Improvement)
The LESS-MESS DC001 Dust Collector Bag is inexpensive and itworks. By working, I mean that it collects the vast majority but notall of the sawdust that my saw produces. But for the price, this iswhat I expected. It will not replace a $500 vacuum system. Cleanuptime has been reduced, and there is no big pile of sawdust to getkicked or blown around. Depending on the cut, usually only a bit offine dust is produced by the saw. Initially there was some dust beingkick up, but I found the blade was 0.008 inch out of parallel to themiter slot. If you are looking to control the saw dust from yourtable saw and noticeably reduce the flying dust, I can recommend thisdust collection bag. But, if you want or need really good dustcollection and control, I am afraid you will need something else.

I have a Craftsman "Limited Edition" saw (they only made 50 million units) which like the inexpensive Delta saws have plenty of gaps between the saw top and the saw body, that may need plugging so that a bag like this will work better. You'll also have to plug the slots made for the blade tilt. If you do all that, you may expose the saw to more dust and heat may build up. You can't hook up a Slopvac or dust collector to the DC001 so as to suck up dust and pull in cooler air to reduce heat buildup. I solved this issue by plugging all the vents and gaps and then building a box which fits snugly under the saw--the box has a hole that will accommodate tubing from my Slopvac (or a dust collector when I get one). Under these conditions, I get much less dust scattered around. you can make one cheaply from 1/2" plywood because you have a table saw!

The ad states it will fit all Delta contactors saws, which is not true.I own a Delta Platinum Edition 10" Contractor's Saw and it does not fit any of what Dleta calls Contactor Saw. It will fit their Table and Bench Saws with stands. The ad states "with open stand" and that is true....

4.0 out of 5 stars 1 Point Off for Price and Instructions, September 6, 2004

I'd give the Less-mess five stars if I could get it for about $20. For the premium price I expected that at least the installation instructions would be accurate. Measure everything, including the dust collector before you drill any holes. The instructions that came with my table saw "diaper" said to space the holes 8" apart on the sides and 6" apart on the front and back. After measuring I swapped the given dimensions around and everything worked out fine. If I had drilled holes in my table saw stand as instructed I would have been sorry. Just the same, it's a good idea. I think I could have made my own for less, but who's got time for that?

1.0 out of 5 stars Mis-representation, September 6, 2001

I just received my new Delta Platinum Edition 36-485 table saw and needed someway to collect dust generated by the table saw and was about to buy item DC001. Thanks to the reviews, I learned that this item will not fit my new saw even though the mfg and writeup by Tool Crib would lead you to believe otherwise. This mis-representation should be corrected. There is a need for this type of collection system as the metal chute that comes with the Delta saws is totally unsat for use in a workshop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of that SAWDUST trail throughout your house, yet?, February 6, 2003

This review is from: Less-Mess DC001 Dust Collector Bag (Tools & Home Improvement)
I got tired of my wife complaining about the SAWDUST trails from my table saw throughout our entire house. I'd wipe my feet and brush off, but the SAWDUST trail kept following me. This product works. It stopped the SAWDUST trails.

Installation went easy. Annoyed at the free advertising on the bag.

My advice: buy it. Its worth avoiding the aggrivation of making it yourself. And it works. On the other hand, you may enjoy those SAWDUST trails. In which case, you will die [that much] richer.

I'm generally happy with it though my Dewalt contractor saw table has a tranverse center bar and the bag has to drape on either side of it. I would have preferred that the snaps were held on with nuts and bolts rather than sheet metal screws (for durability).
Even so I'm glad I bought it and it does what it is supposed to do.

3.0 out of 5 stars This works OK, but only with certain table saws, March 14, 2001

This is a good solution for people who don't want to spend upwards of $1,000 for a dust collection system. Be aware that this will not fit the popular Dewalt 744 saw or stand without a lot of modification. I doubt that it would fit the Bosch table saw either.
