My first book review! Not because I don't read lots (I'm a bookaholic) and not because I don't love the books I read (I just turned my dining room into a small library) but because this book has really touched me at my core and I sincerely think it will do the same for many others. There is a connection between each extremely different life that runs through this book ; so obvious that it jumps out at you in a way that you can't miss; and can't help but be inspired by. It's why this book can change people now and generations to come. Come to find out Greatness isn't always glamorous and rarely easy. It requires passion, being true to ones self, doing what is right (o.k..some exceptions), and above all the confidence to follow your path - not someone else's. Dedication, commitment, focus, and the phrase "no matter what" frequently appear in these lives, voiced or not. Sounds difficult? Maybe even less than desirable? Read on! These were the most satisfied, fulfilled, inspired, passionate people imaginable. Feel like life is less than it was supposed to be? This book may hold the key for you...it honestly did for me. I just received my second one in the mail yesterday... For the dining room.. leaving my copy to share! Ü Thank you Dan McCormick for caring enough to share this treasure - these Great lives.

I just finished "Lessons from Great Lives" and was greatly inspired to get a chance to study the lives of some of these individuals in greater detail. I felt the author did a great job of highlighting some of the traits that made these individuals stand out enough to be included in this book. I was able to read and understand the principles that were outlined by the author that each person used to ascend to greatness and am excited to apply those to my life.
Success leaves clues and I was happy to get a glimpse into all of these people's lives without having to read a full biography of each one. Great job, well written and must read for anyone wanting to make pure positive changes in their life. Joe Sweeney

Lessons from Great Lives is very well written I particularly was very impressed with the flow and the language of the book. Dan's passion in studying these great people certainly was demonstrated in the book. I would highly recommend the book. The study of great people is the quickest way to success as the authors state, and the book defines this in simply and passionate language. Joe Garcia

I love the premise of this book. If you could assemble a "Hall of Fame" of great lives, who would be in it, and why? It could be extremely useful to examine such a collection of lives, to find common traits that enabled the success in each life. Unfortunately, of course, it is impossible to reduce any great life to 7 pages, and some of these get less than that in this book. And in this case, the book is written in an immature manner, repeating things, trying to use flowery language that often just doesn't work, and moralizing throughout the retelling of these lives. The author spends almost as much time talking about himself as he does any of the great lives he covers. However, many of the people covered are very inspiring, and if nothing else, I have discovered that I would like to pick up real biographies of many of these individuals, to glean from their lives what the author undoubtedly discovered but was unable to fully impart in this short book. If you prefer a shallow, quick read of great lives, this book is great. If you would prefer more in-depth biographies, save yourself the money and find books on the great lives included in the book: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Winston Churchill, George Washington Carver, Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin, Mohandas Gandhi, Robert G. Ingersoll, Joan of Arc, Abraham Lincoln, Madame Curie, Napoleon the Great, Horatio Nelson, Jesus of Nazareth, Job, Socrates, Antonio Stradivari, Booker T. Washington, George Washington, and one of the authors, Sterling W. Sill, presumably added by the other author, Dan McCormick.

"Lessons from Great Lives" is a remarkable read. It's well worth your time.
Nearly two decades ago, as I was finishing graduate business school, I quickly discovered that a favorite question of recruiters was, "If you could sit down and have a conversation with anyone in the history of the world, who would it be?" Had I been able to read the 2007 re-release of "Lessons from Great Lives", I would have had 19 great answers to that question. (Actually 21 because I'd include the authors: Sterling Sill and Dan McCormick.) The body of the book introduces readers to 19 remarkable people from history, ranging from Socrates to Jesus of Nazareth, from George Washington Carver to Madame Curie, from Abraham Lincoln to Joan of Arc. Each chapter tells a story, or stories, that reveal important principles that defined the character of these extraordinary people. The good news for readers of "Great Lives" is that principles are timeless. I have no doubt you'll be inspired by what you read and, if you're industrious, you'll have no trouble finding scores of lessons that will help you move your character toward the person you want to be. You'll want to read each and every chapter more than once. There's simply too much to assimilate in a single read. I recommend you buy the book, sit down in a quiet place and enjoy. Read it once, then pull out your hi-liter and read it again and again. You'll be glad you did. Happy reading!

This is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. The one thought I had throughout the book as I read about each life was the passion these great people had for knowledge. Their continuing drive to learn and to stretch their minds and abilities to unthinkable successes. Lessons from Great Lives has changed my thinking of what i'm capable of accomplishing. I still re-read many of my favorites for continuing inspiration.

Lessons From Great Lives,
This review is from: Lessons from Great Lives: Learn To Be Rich In All Areas of Your Life (Hardcover)
I thoroughly enjoyed the book as we can learn so much from studying such amazing people in the past and present. Dan captures the essence of what so many powerful and influential leaders can share with us. This book will help you to understand the principles, habits and work ethic of the greatest people that have ever walked the planet. When you need inspiration to get you through tough times this is the book to open. I am reading this book to my three month old daughter and if even a small part of it helps to shape her future, she will live a life others will write about some day.
