Lefty Gets it Right - Casting a Fly Rod,
By Kevin R. Miquelon "Floundering Fly Fisherman" (St. Louis, Missouri) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lessons With Lefty (DVD)
Lefty Kreh is one of the world's best fly fisherman and an exceptional communicator. His approach is extremely effective and easy to understand. If you will apply Lefty's principles, you will become a better caster and ultimately a better fly fisherman. I suggest buying this in the DVD format because it allows you go back to lessons of particular interest. This is one to purchase and keep for your library to have for many years to come. I highly recommend this one.

Great DVD but aimed at instructors, not beginners,
By November_Guest (Charlottesville, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lessons With Lefty (DVD)
Just to be clear - this DVD is aimed at fly casting instructors, *not* at fly casting beginners. It is not a beginner's DVD on fly casting. If you've never picked up a fly rod, I doubt this is the video that you're looking for. This is actually a bit ambiguous from the title, packaging, description, and from the other reviews. If this wasn't clear to you when ordering, it will become clear when you start watching. Initial lessons include things like learning to cast with either hand, to make it easier to assist your student while standing behind them and reaching around to help them with the cast.
That said, this is the a great DVD from one of the most famous American fly fishermen. There are great tips in here for anyone looking to improve their cast. I found the DVD very worthwhile, even though the only people that I will ever be "instucting" are probably friends and relatives. If you know some casting basics, then I would definately recommend this DVD. But if you are a total beginner, this wouldn't be my first choice (maybe something like Scientific Angler's Introduction to Fly Casting is more like what a total beginner would be looking for).

Needs to slow down with visual aids,
By Fritz (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lessons With Lefty (DVD)
Too fast demonstrating his techniques. Probably the fault of the editing. Lefty's approach and philosophy has much to offer, even to the best of casters. Could have done some more slow/stop motion for the benefit of the viewer. Clarifying diagrams and figures depicting rod motions should have been inserted
