Book Description

May 1, 2008 Independent Studies in Political Economy
An important contribution to the literature of economic development, this book presents case studies of productive entrepreneurship in contemporary Africa and Latin America. It looks at the growth of Kenya's chain stores and one-person kiosks, the rise of barter clubs in Argentina, and Nigeria's clothing-design industry to illustrate economists' insights about entrepreneurship and the role that government regulations often play in impeding economic development.

4.0 out of 5 stars a bit technical, but outstanding!, July 3, 2008
By
This review is from: Lessons from the Poor: Triumph of the Entrepreneurial Spirit (Independent Studies in Political Economy) (Paperback)
The detailed analysis was a bit over my head (not my field), but the graphs and charts DID support and clarify the points and stories the writers (and editor) were telling. I've often seen such 'Third World' entrepreneurship successfully at work in Asia, and it's about time we learned these lessons from the (only materially) poor. Such people are usually, in fact, a delightful, profitable investment!

5.0 out of 5 stars A look at the lessons learned by crafty third world entrepreneurs, August 17, 2008
This review is from: Lessons from the Poor: Triumph of the Entrepreneurial Spirit (Independent Studies in Political Economy) (Paperback)
With all of America's technology and advancements, is there anything that can be learned from third world countries? "Lessons from the Poor: Triumph of the Entrepreneurial Spirit" is a look at the lessons learned by crafty third world entrepreneurs in countries such as Peru, Nigeria, and others whose people have, despite the lack of resources, built thriving companies all their own. A must for anyone who wants to learn from these countries and how their political and economic environment has helped or hindered their businesspeople. "Lessons of the Poor" is a must for business and economics shelves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lessons from the Poor, December 30, 2011

Somewhat boring book--lots of facts and figures. But explains capitalism well. I use it for a reference when speaking or writing.
