Review

“Dena Harris has written a cat book even a dog would love.” --Tim Bete, director of the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop and author of In the Beginning…There Were No Diapers

"Never has watching someone else own a cat been this much fun.” --Lisa Allmendinger, Editor, I Love Cats!

“Captures perfectly the nuances of life with cats!” --Rita Davis, Editor, Cats & Kittens

From the Author

I’ve been allergic to cats most of my life, but that didn’t stop me from bringing Lucy, our first cat, home. I found her when she was three months old, outside, the night before the first frost of the year. I’d never been around a cat for an extended period and my husband was raised in a petless environment as well. Needless to say, we were in for a few surprises.

These stories are about our life with cats (we were crazy enough to bring a second one into the house). I’d say every story is 90% accurate with just a bit of stretching thrown in for laughs. The Great Cat Butt-Wiping Adventure? Happened. Mice in the waterdish? You betcha. I can’t make this stuff up.

I’ve been told the stories are as much about marriage as they are about cats. I’d agree. I tried to write them with that "Erma Bombeck adopts Garfield" feel to them.

Neurotic and demanding as they are, I wouldn’t miss out on having cats. When I’m scratching behind their ears and they’ve got a big purr going, it makes me smile no matter what my mood.. I mean, really, how many chances do we get in life to make someone that happy?

I hope you (and your cats) enjoy the book!

Dena Harris

5.0 out of 5 stars One thing is missing... June 14, 2006
Format:Paperback
As an author, coach and speaker I read lots of books. The difference between the usual books I read and "Lessons in Stalking" by Dena Harris is that this one is very, very funny!

I was reading about grape benadryl and laughing so much that my son wanted to know what was going on. I read the story out loud to him and my wife and they found it a hoot too.

Whether it's a cat foaming at the mouth, a husband trying to get the last of the foam off after a cat bath, or a couple doubling their pleasure(?) by adding a kitten, the personal vignettes penned by Dena Harris in "Lessons in Stalking" are entertaining, instructive, and very, very funny.

Whether you own a cat now, have owned cats in the past, or are trying to justify to your spouse why you absolutely can't get a cat this book is for you.

Oh yeah, it might even be for you if you want to get a cat.

I highly recommend "Lessons in Stalking" for you and all your cat friendly friends.

And the one thing that missing? That would be more stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny book November 22, 2005
Format:Paperback
A must for all cat lovers. Lessons in Stalking is 20 of the funniest (and true) short stories on cat ownership. It's a quick read and great for anytime you'd like a little humor in your life. Dena has shared some very true, witty stories about being a pet owner -- and in particular, being a pet owner.

You're chortle at Never Feed a Cat Grape Benadryl, Kitty Jihad, Jingle Ball Horrors, Tacky Tape Sucks and other reasons why I can't own nice furniture. and Morning Revelry. But to be honest, they're all funny.

If you own a cat, buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little book, even if you don't own a cat! October 11, 2005
Format:Paperback
I started to read this book and couldn't put it down. The humor is non-stop. Dena Harris is simply a wonderful writer and I don't even own a cat! I was giggling at the butt-wipe adventure when my husband walked in and I shared it with him. We both laughed and then I caught him reading later after I finished it. It's an easy read, I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a laugh or a great gift idea to friends with cats. Go Dena! Can't wait to read the next one!

There are several books similar to this one out there, but I think this one is by far the best. So many of the tales I could absolutely see my own cats doing very similar things. Read more
