Her long awaited album entitled "Let The Candle Burn" contains thirteen original songs that Natalie has written over the course of the last four years. Natalie displays a range of subject matter, tempo and mood throughout the album with sensual ballads and gritty mid and up-tempo tracks. The title track "Let The Candle Burn" gets you up on your feet, while the mid-tempo "More Today Than Yesterday" has your fingers snapping to the beat. "Wind At My Back" inspires while "Confused" provokes. "I'm proud of how this album turned out," muses Natalie. "It accurately reflects what is going on with me at this point in my life, which is an extremely difficult thing to pull off on a first album".
Born in Ontario, Canada and now residing in San Francisco, CA, Natalie Brown's path to success has indeed been a winding one. After moving to Vancouver, B.C. in the mid eighties and almost becoming an elementary school teacher, she made her way to California and landed a spot singing lead and background vocals on internationally acclaimed Gospel recording artist Ron Kenoly's "Welcome Home" tour in 1996. She toured around the country and upon her return, studied with world-renowned vocal instructors Seth Riggs (Michael Jackson, Tevin Campbell, Deborah Cox) and Dave Stroud (Terry Ellis of En Vogue, Rosie Gaines).
In 1997, she began working on demo tapes and singing background vocals at local recording studios. She worked with several record producers to put together a handful of songs to shop around. Even though she received mild interest from a couple of major labels, she chose to take the independent label route, signing a record deal on her birthday; December 19th, 1998. Things did not work out quite as expected, and a year later, the contract expired without an album being released. In July 2000 Natalie accepted an offer from a label owned by the producer of her first album and Let the Candle Burn is the product of that collaboration.
Re-energized and passionate, Natalie Brown is a glowing, new talent ready to challenge current perceptions of what a Pop / R&B artist should look and sound like. She writes songs that chronicle her life experiences, and she invites us to sit in and analyze the musical landscapes of her thoughts and emotions. She often philosophizes as she reflects on her own life and of those around her: "We spend so much time looking outward for something that's already inside us".
Spend some time with Natalie Brown and her music and witness the launching of what is unquestionably destined to be a brilliant career.

Lyrics worth listening to,

Amongst all the cheap, two-cent lyrics of the pop industry, it's nice to listen to an album with lyrics that are honest, harmonies that are clean and a memorable sweet voice. Natalie seems like a real person in her music. She's definitely given a big part of herself for this debut album. I wish her the best of luck and hope she sees the success she deserves!

WOW! Real Music From A Real Person,

This woman's music has touched me so profoundly. First of all I have to disagree wholeheartedly with the listener who said the production and songwriting was "early 90's and weak". I think that the team of Brown/Rwakaara stands heads above the rest of todays Urban/Contemporary R&B/Pop. The production is nearly flawless- just hear how perfectly the vocals fit the backing tracks and the vocal expression itself was wonderfully directed! The vocals and the lyrical content on this CD are the focal point (AND they SHOULD be!)- the producer had the brains to know that and did not muddy them up with the weird sounds and effects that too many of today's producers slather all over the vocals! Way to go! I think the songs have a timeless, classic appeal that will live on FAR after most of "today's" music and current sounds are forgotten and buried. It is so nice for a change, to hear some positive messages and well crafted lyric writing. No disrespect to today's Pop/R&B artists, but I am sick of hearing about women putting men down, and women going on and on about posessing material things etc.! I have to say that the lyrical content was very touching and remarkable to me. VERY REAL! I like how Natalie writes about topics that have been before- but with a totally different twist- like in 'Confused' 'Wind at My Back' and 'Run Away'. I also can really sense the 'real', 'personal' Natalie in all she writes... like she is putting her heart out on the line for all to read. I love this CD and so does my 15 year old daughter- so as far as how the songs speak to people of different ages- well I am 42- I love it and can really get a lot from it. It is fun, danceable and uplifting- while at the same time the songs can really probe you in places of the heart that may have been left untouched for a while- and cause you to think about your life and purpose. I say WAY TO GO to Natalie and her producer- they should stick together because they defenitly have something special as far as producing wonderful music goes!!!! Don't change a THING! WOW!

by how professional this artist sounds. She should be on the radio. This is better than most of the stuff even on major labels. Great songs and vocals. I'll buy it in a minute and keep my eye on Natalie Brown. She's going to be big..I said it right here!!!!
