This review is from: Let the Credits Roll (Moda) (Paperback)
For curious moviegoers as well as film students and young professionals; and a perfect supplement for film industry career guides.
Reading the introduction, I grew suspicious that this book is going to be simplistic and amateurish. Soon I couldn't put it down. Barbara Baker's frank approach gives you a rare insight into filmmaking, with a collection of interviews with prominent crew members. Rare, because this book bridges the gap between "movie magic" and real life. Baker makes a fine choice of keeping technical information minimal - there are hordes of other books that will teach you all about that - instead, she focuses on the personal aspect. What is it like to work at the movies? Whether you're just curious, or seriously plan to join the industry (and I must say I belong to the latter), this book is fascinating. |
