Growing up in the 1940s on a farm in Iowa with a loving but non-musical family, Elvin seldom heard music as a kid. “This was before TV,” Elvin says, “and on the radio you got a lot of Frank Sinatra and ‘How Much Is That Doggie In the Window’ type of stuff.” The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, when Elvin was 10, in 1952. After many years of being without this one in my collection, Ive enjoyed it once again! This one is Elvin in his finest form. "Cant go back" is my personal favorite. "I cant hold myself in line" is an old Hank Williams classic.Every song on this CD is great I highly recommed it.

I bought this when it first came out on vinyl and have gone through 3 copies. I then bought a Japanese pressing on CD for about $10 Australian and it's still a fave album. But, US$70 !!!!, that's riduculous. If you can find it at a reasonable price, just get it and enjoy. Elvin's piano player Phil Aaberg is a master; as good as Chuck Leavell and Gene Taylor. This is crammed packed full of great tunes and is one of the best party albums of all time. For some enterprising record company it would be a good investment to get the license for this and his next album Juke Joint Jump and issue as a twofer.

I really missed this one after my wife sold all my old 8-tracks to a neighbor for a dime apiece back in 1986 because it was a standard for the road camping and fishing. Read more
